This Phillie Phanatic parody video will haunt your nightmares

Dec 20, 2013, 7:25 PM EDT

The Phillie Phanatic is good for a laugh a majority of the time, whether he’s cavorting around Citizens Bank Park in his ATV, posing for pictures with fans in the stands, or rifling individually-wrapped hot dogs into the 400-level. The Phanatic, who hails from the Galapagos Islands (of Charles Darwinian fame), will be entering his 36th year of existence on this planet and he has become as much a part of the Phillies franchise as the athletes who don the red pinstripes themselves.

The Phillies’ latest creation involving the Phanatic is nightmare fuel, however. In an attempt to parody the popular YouTube video “What Does the Fox Say?” by Norwegian duo Ylvis, the Phillies created, “What’s the Phanatic Say?” It’s… something.

This, not the five-year, $125 million contract extension given to Ryan Howard, will be the lasting legacy of GM Ruben Amaro’s tenure with the Phillies.

Why do baseball teams need mascots anyway?

Why do idiots keep posting comments in forums?

      • anxovies - Dec 21, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Why do idiots keep responding to idiots who keep posting comments in forums? OK, next…

It’s these things you might have heard of: children. They like stupid s***. Like mascots

Did Scott Boras really need to star in this video?

Dear Dog Almighty. I may never recover from that. Truly, the City of Philadelphia and its citizens have mush to answer for.

This thing makes that Kanye parody look phreaking brilliant. You know who would never do some schlitz like that? Paws the Tiger. This is why Phanatic-tipping is a thing. He, er, it brings it on itself. I must drink now.

      • cur68 - Dec 20, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Paws The Tiger? Bah, BJ Blue Jay would pwn that kitty.

pppftt you’ve never see the routines of “Chango 0 Te” (“0 Te” in spanish is a play of words, it sounds like a slang for… poo), a popular mascot in the Mexican Baseball leagues (some of his routines were coached by the former San Diego Chicken)… good stuff, keeps you lauging in between innings and with his interaction with umpires, managers and players who before the game agreed to “help” him.

    They Shoot Horses Don’t They?

Well, this certainly qualifies for capital punishment. After half a minute I was glad I didn’t have a noose, shotgun, or razor blade handy.

I WRITE song parodies myself, and love them with a passion. Over 200 full length, many of them recorded…but this is not my cup of tea, to put it mildly.

That thing seriously took years off of Weird Al’s life. It’s an embarrassment to parody.

Years of therapy and weeks of sobriety all down the drain in 3 mins 31 secs. Oh well.

  6. peterjohnjoseph - Dec 21, 2013 at 1:46 AM

Well, it seems like the things the Phanatic says still make more sense than anything that comes out of Jonathan Papelbon’s mouth.

  7. jasjbb - Dec 21, 2013 at 8:28 AM

Twp…why do idiot teams make idiotic videos like this? That’s the bigger question…

  8. anxovies - Dec 21, 2013 at 11:08 AM

Apparently, the process of evolution is not finished with the Galapagos yet.
