Picture of the Day: The Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium

Dec 28, 2013, 12:03 PM EDT

Courtesy of the official Twitter account of the Yankees media relations department, here’s a look at Yankee Stadium for today’s Pinstripe Bowl between Notre Dame and Rutgers. Kickoff is just a few minutes away.

It’s still weird to see a football field at Yankee Stadium, but the scene isn’t nearly as striking as last year when there was snow on the ground. This is downright pleasant in comparison. Shame we still have to wait a little over three months for baseball to be played there again.

Reblogged this on The Second Time Around.

Too bad it is such a crappy field.

Rolling out on a little gratuitous trolling rune today, spud?

      • spudchukar - Dec 28, 2013 at 1:32 PM

Notre Dame has already lost a running back, who skidded on the lousy playing surface, and numerous other players and refs have slipped, and there are divots all over the field.

Of course to the “pin-striped eyes”, the field is in perfect condition and those non-New York athletes just don’t know how to adapt to the ideal playing conditions.

Too many runners were just slipping and falling. Game should be played at the new football stadium in the Meadowlands.

I hope that is not true about it being a few minutes from kickoff. If it is the stadium looks pretty empty.

It was a few minutes from kickoff when he posted this, not when the picture was taken.

If you look at the billboard in the background…45 minutes to kickoff when the picture was taken.

Oh, facts. You can prove anything even remotely true with facts.

What a fun time that was, to see the “greatest” college football team in history to play on the field of the “greatest” baseball team in history… What else can a guy ask for? We were truly blessed today…

The boxscore lists final attendance at over 47,000, which is only 3,000 short of baseball capacity. As long the Pinstripe Bowl hosts one team with a lot of local alum, it will fill in the seats. (It’s always had either Rutgers or Syracuse.)

starting next year, the Bowl will feature a matchup between an ACC team and a Big Ten team. The bowl should have pretty good attendance.
