Orioles and Mets have been discussing potential trade ideas

The Orioles and Mets tossed around trade ideas involving not just first baseman Ike Davis, but second baseman Daniel Murphy, and left fielder/first baseman Lucas Duda as well, reports Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun. He writes that the two teams couldn’t reach an agreement because the Mets wanted Orioles top pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez in return.

The Mets are still expected to move at least one of Davis and Duda but a lot of teams have already satisfied their needs for first basemen already. Davis and Murphy are both entering their second year of arbitration eligibility while Duda is entering his first year. The Mets currently have just $45 million committed and would need to double that to reach last year’s Opening Day salary of nearly $94 million, but their focus on making a trade is more about optimal roster construction. Taking Duda out of left field, where he spent most of 2013, and moving him to first base full time in place of Davis gives the Mets a better outfield with Curtis Granderson in left, Juan Lagares in center, and Chris Young in right with Eric Young, Jr. as the fourth outfielder.

Ike Davis and Murphy for machado seems reasonable for both teams, o’s would probably need to throw in some cash for the mets to bite

How about the Mets get Machado, Davis, Hardy, and Jones, and the Orioles get $10,000, two minor league relievers, and some old bat donuts?

See, I can be ridiculous just like you.

Anyone that thinks this guy is trolling has clearly never listened to WFAN around deadline day.

hmmm, that trade looks pretty good, but I think the Mets would improve their team more if they dealt Syndergaard, d’Arnaud and Flores and received Reimold and cho momma in return…

I’d trade Murphy if we got Schoop back (which won’t happen). Otherwise, Ike for someone like Berry could work…

did you reaaly say davis and murphy for machado? and the orioles throw in cash? that’s one of the most ridiculous things i have ever read

He must be talking about someone named Randall Machado. Or Joe Machado. Or Felix Machado. Or….

I’m not sure what the Orioles are up to. Not unless they are looking to move Chris Davis or other players in an attempt to getting the most trade value from players that they can’t afford extend contracts. Nothing against Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy,or Duda. I’m sure they are fine people and have some value. They do not appear to be worth Eduardo Rodriguez , who just had a very good Az. fall league. He rated very well by scouts by flashing an electric fast ball with a lot of upside. Clearly, this would be a trade that would strongly favor the Mets.

What trade would that be? The story says the Orioles wouldn’t give up Rodriguez for those guys.

The Orioles need a starting pitcher first and foremost. No understanding what this trade does to solve that problem.

The Orioles need pitching and the Mets need hitting……..so the Mets are going to give up 3 of their best young bats for another pitching prospect. I feel like the organization might be ready to move on from Davis and Duda, but I don’t understand trying to get rid of Murphy.

What the hell would the Mets do with Machado anyway? Make him Wright’s backup?

I have heard the Mets offering up Murphy and someone else for Dylan Bundy…makes a little more sense.
