#askPoz about the Baseball Hall of Fame

Jan 7, 2014, 2:45 PM EDT

Wednesday is the big day for the 2014 inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame. No one made the cut last year, but there are locks this time around (read: Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas), not to mention candidates from last year who could sneak in this time around (Mike Piazza).

So how will you prepare? Try reading Joe Posnanski’s Massive Hall of Fame post (actual title) and then coming here to chat with him at 3 pm ET. He’ll be here, hosting a live chat below.

So, when exactly is the “steroid era,” since that guy said he didnt vote for Maddux because he pitched during it and Morris’s career overlaps with Maddux?

Couple that wih Tom House saying he thinks there were steroids in the 60s and 70s in baseball (not just in wrestling, the Olympics and the NFL) and its just a mess.

You are making the assumption that these people are acting upon logic and reason, and not simply using this as a giant soapbox to help fill the giant void in their lives making them stand up and say “LOOK AT ME!!! I’m controversial!”

Actually, House confessed using steroids himself in the early ’70s and stated he had teammates who did also, plus asserting that players on other teams also used. Dianabol, the first pharmaceutical “anabolic steroid” hit the market in 1958. Sports Illustrated had an article on athletes using drugs to enhance performance by athletes to include baseball players in 1960 (to me one of the most interesting anecdotes was of athletes actually using cocaine as a PED too back then). There were also ball players who used animal testosterone back in the late 19th and early 20th century, notably including Hall of Famer Pud Galvin.

Damnit, figured this was going to be a chat in the comments and a not a cover-it-live type thing. Y’all should do this more often.
