Mets have had “some dialogue” with Freddy Garcia

As the Mets search for inexpensive rotation depth Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that “there has been at least some dialogue” with right-hander Freddy Garcia.

Garcia was terrible for the Orioles early last season, got demoted to Triple-A, and then resurfaced in the majors with the Braves down the stretch. Overall he threw 80 innings with a 4.37 ERA and 46/17 K/BB ratio in the big leagues.

At age 37  and with a mid-80s fastball Garcia has zero upside, but he’s likely available on a minor-league deal and the Mets aren’t looking to invest much in a potential fifth starter.

wouldn’t be a bad pick up for the jays either, currently he would be a #3 starter on the jays staff. Give him a call AA!!

“Thank you for calling the New York Mets. To purchase tickets, press 1. To purchase merchandise, press 2. To speak with an Amway representative, press 3. To hear a replay of the Mookie Wilson hit, press 4. To hear it again, press 5. To make fun of Jeff Wilpon’s hair, press 6. To ridicule the atrocious billboards covering the outside of the stadium, press 7. To inquire about the obsession with the Dodgers, press 8. If you have located Timo Perez, press 9. If this is Freddy Garcia, please hang up and dial again later. Thank you for calling the Mets.”

I hate to break it to you, Shea is closed and
Bernie Madoff stole all the Mets free agent money.

Why would you “have some dialog” with a guy who isn’t going to get a major league deal anywhere? It should be more like, “here’s a minor league deal, Freddie. Take it or leave it.” ‘Nuff said.

    That was bad Jason….Bad…

I’m sure the dialogue was basically “we’ll give you a minor league deal and an invite to spring training if you’re interested.” The Mets have Colon, Gee, Niese, Wheeler as a starting four next season which should be pretty good. They have promising young arms like de Grom, Montero, and Syndergaard who might step up and make the club next season. Garcia would be injury/ineffectiveness insurance at best.

My 93 year old grandmother is available, and the Mets can get her on the cheap without needing to have extensive dialogue.

In this weeks edition of “What Washed Up Old Veteran Will The Mets Reach Out To….”

There’s gotta be a better option than Freddy for the 5th spot… heck bring back Aaron Harang and let him give it a shot!
