Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Mariners and Indians are “emerging as favorites” among the 5-7 teams that have expressed serious interest in signing free agent starter Scott Baker.

Baker missed the entire 2012 season due to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and made only three starts for the Cubs in 2013, but he had a 3.14 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 2011 with the Twins and is expected to enter camp this year at full health.

Cotillo expects Baker to settle for a minor league contract. That’s a worthwhile gamble for any club.

Baker might just do well in the expansive Safeco, along with the defense the Mariners employ.

Not if Rosenthal gets his way and Seattle signs Cruz. An outfield with 2 of Hart, Morrison and Cruz will suck ass. And Saunders is slightly below average in CF so……ick!

Why would the Mariners try for Tanaka, when we can get Scott Baker?

I know this is the inter webs and all, but pretty sure you all can detect my sarcasm…….

If we ain’t gonna get Tanaka, can we at least get Tony LaRussa? Dude freakin wants the M’s prez job!!!!!! C’mon, man

So why aren’t the Cubs interested? They paid him $5.5 million last year to rehab in their facilities and then show absolutely no interest now that he’s healthy?

I’ve heard they are trying to get a minor league contract on him. They do have a crowded house at SP. He was a $5.5 million gamble that didn’t pay off.

Jeff stop trying to throw logic at the Cubs. This is the team that blames a goat and a cat for missing the WS for 100 years.
