Chipper Jones caused a forest fire, apparently

Jan 22, 2014, 8:21 PM EDT

Smokey Bear will be very disappointed when he hears the news. Chipper Jones sent out a couple of concerning tweets in which he says he says he started a forest fire.

Jones also retweeted this picture:

Needless to say, Jones is keeping it interesting in retirement.

That doesn’t really look like a “LOL” moment. More of an “oh s#!+” moment.

Only WHO can prevent forest fires?

You have selected “you” indicating me. That is incorrect. The correct answer is YOU.

Can Lisa and I play outside…away from the bear?

      • tfbuckfutter - Jan 22, 2014 at 11:14 PM

        “Aaahh nuts….I mean…..aaaahhh nuts.”

        “Did you hear something?”
        “No”
        “Oh….did I?”
        “I don’t know!”

Why should the race always be to the swift, or the Jumble to the quick-witted? Should they be allowed to win merely because of the gifts God gave them? Well I say cheating is the gift man gives himself.

When danger threatens, always climb a tree.

Is it further to L.A. than by bus?

Chipper better have to pay for that: the firemen, the forest damage…

    • strictlythedanks - Jan 22, 2014 at 9:05 PM

firefighters yes. but pretty sure a good burning is very good for the woods in the long run.

      • paperlions - Jan 23, 2014 at 7:10 AM

It’s about as good for the woods as cutting them down.

      • newlydead - Jan 23, 2014 at 11:09 AM

@paperlions (couldn’t reply directly to the comment)

burning is actually very good for the health of a forest …

        From the USDA Forest Service

“Without natural fire, more seedlings have survived to maturity, resulting in a denser and less healthy forest. ……. Prescribed fire is needed today to replenish soil nutrients, stimulate new growth, and to maintain biological diversity; all of which contribute to a healthy forest.”

      • historiophiliac - Jan 23, 2014 at 11:22 AM

I think the key words there are “natural” and “prescribed.” This was neither. Accidental arson is totally different.

  4. historiophiliac - Jan 22, 2014 at 9:05 PM

Of course he did. Way to go Larry. Dumbass.

  5. uscthom78 - Jan 22, 2014 at 9:33 PM

I think the homeless people who cause the forest fire in los angeles got arrested. This Larry guy doesn’t.

  6. djpostl - Jan 22, 2014 at 9:58 PM

Does this idiot know what a burn barrel is?

  7. historiophiliac - Jan 22, 2014 at 10:01 PM

Things Larry is not good at:

    1. Twitter
    2. Quitting Twitter
    3. Ash disposal
    4. Basketball hoop assembly
    5. Compound sentences
    6. Using “lol” correctly

    the old wood chipper, eh

  10. km9000 - Jan 22, 2014 at 11:57 PM

I’m guessing he still gets to throw out the first pitch at the firefighters softball game, but it’ll be to some guy in a giant dalmatian costume.

  11. f.verd - Jan 23, 2014 at 9:31 AM

This only proves that Chippers and forests and trees don’t go well together…
