Grady Sizemore is not signing with the Reds

Jan 22, 2014, 3:10 PM EDT

There was a lot of talk about the Reds’ courtship of Grady Sizemore (note to our younger readers: he used to play major league baseball), but now that’s over. Straight from the GM’s mouth:

Given Sizemore’s long absence from both the game and from good health, one has to assume it wasn’t a financial demand that was the deal breaker. One possibility, and this is just speculation: another team is offering him an actual major league deal or a minor league deal with an invite to major league camp when the Reds are unwilling to. Another speculative point, but one which I hope is not the case: his health is still a question mark.

Whatever the reasons, if Sizemore is going to continue his big league career, it will be outside of the state of Ohio.

wait walt is not signing an over the hill player? good for him but he would have if it had been a ex-cardinal. which leads to believe he is still looking for one to sign.I can’t believe another team is going to be foolish enough to give this guy a big league contract. hope it has lots of incentives because he will probably be injured signing the contract.

How the hell can a 31-year old be an over the hill player? You can say they didn’t sign an injury prone player, but over the hill at 31 years old? Come on!!

I hear Rick Ankiel is still available

I know you think you making a joke but it would not surprise me at all if he did and it would have to be a 2 year 5 million dollar so he can retire comfortably. just look at what ludwick got for having a decent 2012 season and what he gave shumaker for being a utility guy. did not see other teams lining up the brinks truck for either one of them but hey they were good 10 years ago when they played for the cardinals.

I assume that this means that Sizemore is Tanaka’s favorite player.

    “Things have changed”

    Like he took a physical?

I heard he won’t be signing with anyone this season.

He accidentally bumped his stack of medical records, it fell on him. He’s in a body cast.

But luckily, he had one laying around so he didn’t have to shell out for a new one.

Glad to see the roused Walt from his slumber. Did he see his shadow?

Note to our younger readers: courtship refers to the act of courting, which is where a member of the species, usually the male, will attempt to win the love and affection of another member of the species, usually a female, with the hope that the efforts result in marriage. See: woo.
