Play of the Day: Pablo Sandoval is looking spry at third base

Jan 24, 2014, 5:20 PM EST

There’s baseball going on down in Venezuela. And Pablo Sandoval — who is on his second tour of Best Shape of His Life Status — is picking it at third base. Check this out:

He’s been rather cagey about how much weight he’s lost, but I cant’ remember seeing the Panda make that kind of move to his left in San Francisco. He looks like a totally new man.

Perhaps he’s truly working the Panda diet now. All bamboo all the time. Isn’t that what they eat? That’s pretty much all I can recall about them other than that they aren’t really bears and know kung fu.

Pandas can’t do kun fu, hmmm, you learn something everyday on this internet thing.
      Thank you Al Gore

Whatever weight he loses, I’m sure he’ll find a la CC.

    Yes, but is granny spry?

Watching him play third at Nats Park a few times, I was surprised at how spry he was for a fat guy.

Without the extra tonnage, Gold Glove, baby!

There are some pretty good defensive third basemen in the NL. Panda’s bat is critical to the Giants, he just has to be average with the glove.

      If Arenado retires @ 23 he’s got a chance.

In other news, Pablo Sandoval has the shortest torso in the MLB
