CSN Bay Area’s Andrew Baggarly reports that Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval came up lame running out a grounder in the eighth inning of a Venezuelan Winter League game last night. Baggarly writes that it appears to be a “minor” injury, fortunately. He is back in the lineup tonight.

A recent report indicated that Sandoval has lost over 40 pounds this off-season as he enters his final season before free agency. Staying on the field had been an issue for Sandoval in previous years.

Sandoval’s injury was a footnote in what was an interesting game between Navegantes de Magallanes and Caribes de Anzoategui. Carlos Zambrano was part of a benches-clearing brawl and reportedly threw a few haymakers.

Oh the Giants will be just thrilled.

I hope his hamates didn’t grow back.

Probably has nothing to do with the fact that he is over weight and out of shape. Many baseball players make the US Curling team look like super human athletic specimens.

You clearly haven’t been receiving the BSOHL updates.

He had a hamstring strain in 2012 and missed three weeks. If this is no worse, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I heard he was injured after he tripped over his pants as they fell down to his ankles while he was running the bases.

Oh Free-Agent next season, fat boy decides to dedicate himself to the game now. This why guaranteed contracts should be limited to a maximum of three years for baseball players. The major league players association should be embarrassed. Just bad for the game of baseball.

    BSOHL?

You must be new here. Welcome. BSOHL = best shape of his life. It’s an annual occurrence here at hbt. One that marks the coming of spring, like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano, players proclaiming they are in the BSOHL.

A lot of MLB stars playing in the caribbean “injure” themselves in the last games every year, so they don’t end up playing in the Caribbean Series… it is a very well known fact that players argue they’re injured just to avoid traveling. In the case of Sandoval it might be true because the caribbean Series will be played in Venezuela versus the current champion México, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba.

While for example Luis Ayala and others will play in the other championship series in Colombia, the Latinoamerican Series that will have the current champion México, Colombia, Panamá and Nicaragua… maybe México will repeat as champion in the Latinoamerican Series (though Nicaragua is a strong team), but I think Venezuela and Cuba will be facing each other in the Caribean Series final.

It’s actually unhealthy for a panda to lose weight. What was he thinking?
