Not satisfied after signing Carlos Pena and Brennan Boesch yesterday the Angels have added another veteran left-handed bat in Chad Tracy, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Tracy is 33 years old and spent the past two seasons as a bench bat for the Nationals, hitting .230 with seven homers and a .660 OPS in 241 plate appearances spread over 165 games.

He was once a solid regular for the Diamondbacks, but Tracy hasn’t topped a .700 OPS since 2008. He gets a minor-league deal and will try win a bench role as a corner infield backup and pinch-hitter.

What are the odds two players of the same name sign on the same day?

Seriously, it took me a good 15 minutes to figure out what was going on here.

Damn, beat me to it. I was just going to comment that the Orioles signed Chad Tracy and wait for the responses.

Mulder, Pena, Tracy, Boesch, McDonald, Volstad….Halos are definitely dumpster diving in search of lightning in a bottle.

I fully expect a smiling Jamie Moyer any moment now, talking about taking a chance in Anaheim.

I am thinking Vernon Wells is next on the “hit” parade. Ouch, it is tough being an Angels fan these days. Maybe they will forgive Jose Guillen and Fernando Rodney back. Kidding, please don’t do it.

Where’s the correction? Not even an acknowledgement of the error? Weak.

What is this error of which you speak? Not very specific. Weak.

About an hour ago this post reported that Chad Tracy, the 33 year-old bench jockey, had been signed by the Orioles.

Dude, please read the first couple of comments before you embarrass yourself further.

So…..the author or editor uses a pseudonym in the comments? And readers…just know this.

      So embarrassed!!!!!!!!

When was the last time the Angels signed a free agent that was not past his prime? Torii Hunter? Vlad Guerrero? Don’t they know the odds are stacked against “catching lightning in a bottle”? Had they signed a lot of these guys five years ago, it would have made sense. I boldly predict the Angels will be watching the playoffs on TV this season.
