Diamondbacks, Gerardo Parra avoid arbitration

Nick Piecoro reports that the Diamondbacks and Gerardo Parra have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.85 million contract.

Parra requested $5.2 million and was offered $4.3 million from the Diamondbacks when arbitration figures were exchanged last month, so the two sides settled for a little above the midpoint. Let’s call this a win for Parra. Not that anyone cares except for hard core arbitration gamblers, but since football is now over for the year they gotta have something.

    I just looked up his stats on Bref. Pretty unexcited about the deal for the Snakes based on offense. He’s ki9nd of OK. But Wow! Some defense. Maybe not such a bad deal after all.

    My fantasy league is going to credit outfield assists this year. Maybe I will save him for depth.

    Yep. Kinda of streaky behind the plate but his defense is incredible, especially in a big yard like Chase.

      I expected that to be hyperbole but then I looked him up and while his bat was only worth 1.5 WAR, his defense was worth 4.0 (!). That is probably the highest I’ve ever seen. He is consistently a good defender according to his stats but last season he was out of this world. He actually has a strong case to be a nearly elite player last season when his combined 6.1 bWAR is considered even though most of that is defense.
