Jesse Crain has a calf strain

Jesse Crain injured his right calf the other day. Evan Drellich reports that an MRI has confirmed the original diagnosis of a strain.

While Bo Porter characterized the diagnosis as good news — coulda been worse – it’s just the latest in a series of health issues for Crain. He had biceps surgery in the offseason and the calf is going to set him back some more. This will likely place Chad Qualls in line to be the Astros’ Opening Day starter.

You were a poet and didn’t know it.

Jesse Crain was slotted as the Opening Day starter? And now Chad Qualls is going to replace him? Huh, here I thought those guys were relievers.

With this team, you just never really know anymore.

In the words of Harry Doyle, “Who cares? It’s a rat with wings.”

Opening day starter or closer? Did the Astros decide to stretch Crain out?

Didn’t see this coming at all…
    and he’s a reliever not a starter

He typed too fast. He means “closer.” That’s not necessarily good, either.

That’s an awesome photo of Crain, too.

The Jesse Crain saga is beginning to resemble last years “waiting for Ryan Madsen” saga in Anaheim….Still think it was a good signing as he will help the Astros start to win a few more games (and could also be a good trade chip) if healthy, but the signings of Qualls and Albers also show the Houston front office was not foolish enough to put all the bullpen eggs in the Crain basket…..
