Melky Cabrera is in The Best Shape of His Life

Feb 20, 2014, 11:45 AM EDT

This shouldn’t cause anyone to snark in Melky’s direction. Nope:

His past good seasons corresponded with better conditioning. How much of that better conditioning came with the aid of PEDs is an open question, of course. Thing that stinks for Melky is, even if he is clean now, no one will ever give him the benefit of the doubt on it.

Even better than when he was roiding?

  2. supersnappy - Feb 20, 2014 at 11:50 AM

Melky also had some sort of tumor growing on his spine, which was successfully treated during the off-season.

Who knows how much that had to do with his problems last season? I was baloming the turf @ Rogers Centre for the dead legs he had all year until they shut him down, but this makes me think the guy just wasn’t right. He could have a nice bounce back season batting second in that lineup.

Boy, “baloming” had me going there for a minute. Finally got it. Remarkable translation instrument, the human brain. A machine would have never figured that one out.

Ervin Santana signed with Tampa Bay….2 years….32 millions!

I heard he got in shape while breakdancing to save the community center in his old neighborhood alongside Turbo, Ozone, and Kelly.

    There should be categories:
BSOL and BNCESOL (Best Non-Chemically Enhanced Shape of his Life)

  7. proudlycanadian - Feb 20, 2014 at 12:12 PM

Last season, Melky had a tumor in his back that was attached to his spine. The doctor who removed it was surprised that Melky was able to play at all.

    • chip56 - Feb 20, 2014 at 12:17 PM

      and he was off steroids.

      • dirtyharry1971 - Feb 20, 2014 at 11:40 PM

LOOGY? Teams have designated spitters now? (Just kidding, I know what it means.)

    • yardleyphils - Feb 20, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Mike Trout is 13 years old. He’s in the BSOHL every year for the next 15 years.

    • sandwiches4ever - Feb 21, 2014 at 11:35 AM

What about CC? I think after all of the articles he’d be on the list.

  9. raysfan1 - Feb 20, 2014 at 2:19 PM

Yeah, getting caught cheating and lying about it/trying to set up a false website in an attempt to avoid the consequences of cheating will tend to cost a player any benefit of the doubt he might have otherwise received.

    • sophiethegreatdane - Feb 20, 2014 at 3:57 PM

I loved the fake website bit. That was a brilliant piece of fail. If only he had set up the fake site in advance.

He deserves to have the steroid thing follow him the rest of his career. Any thinking person realizes that he should have been banned for life.
