CC Sabathia looks as shockingly slim in his uniform as he does in street clothes

Feb 21, 2014, 11:00 AM EDT

When the skinny CC Sabathia pics started circulating a few weeks ago I thought to myself “yeah, he looks slim now, but put him in that big baggy uniform and he’ll probably be a lot closer to what we usually see.” Most players are like that. Miguel Cabrera was that way even after losing a lot of weight a couple years ago, for example. Fact is, we’re used to seeing these guys in big uniforms with multiple layers, so skinny offseason pics of guys in street clothes are often misleading.

But nope, not with CC Sabathia:

I am truly looking forward to seeing him pitch this season. Really wondering how the weight loss will affect him.

Last year he was skinny and his numbers were the same as Hughes. Now thinner again this year. We can only hope he is heading in the right direction. Health wise for sure.
But the Yankees didn’t pay him all that money to be the best conditioned pitcher on the staff. If he pitches the same as last year. The Yankees will have the most expensive conditioning coach in all sports.
Crawford did workouts year round that would put athletes in most sports to shame. Boston gave him a big contract. Then found out he couldn’t stay on the field for any length of time. He left it all in the gym.
I wonder if the BABE would have hit all those home runs 40 lbs lighter. Or Colon still pitch at 40 like he was 20 with 40 lbs less weight. Hmmm
I usually don’t mess with success. It has a way of coming back to haunt you.

Gee, when a ballplayer come to ST buffed out from off-season workouts, everybody suspects he’s juiced. Now guys are coming in slimmer, and nobody is saying he was un-juiced. Is it really that easy to drop 30 lbs or so in 3 months – during the Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hannukah/New Year/Kwaanzaa (I celebrate them all) season?
