Orioles “intensifying their interest” in Kendrys Morales

Along with reports this morning that the Orioles are still interested in Ervin Santana even after signing Ubaldo Jimenez, now Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that they’re also “intensifying their interest” in free agent first baseman Kendrys Morales.

Now that the Orioles have already lost their first-round draft pick to sign Jimenez the prospect of losing later draft picks for other free agents isn’t as costly. Their next draft pick to lose is 54th overall.

According to Connolly the switch-hitter is now willing to take a two-year deal–perhaps with an opt-out clause after this season–after previously wanting four or five years.

I still think the Pirates should go after him.

Given the story about Teixeira already missing a week of Spring Training and the NYY having no replacement 1B that doesn’t already have a spot on the diamond, Cashman needs to call him. Yesterday.

The Yanks have already blown through the luxury tax barrier (again). They are done with signing major league contracts.

Once you’re paying the maximum, what’s a couple million more? When you are talking about the NYY never say never.

The Yanks are getting hit pretty hard with the luxury pretty hard this year.

They were already hit with the l tax by the time they signed Tanaka. If the NYY need a part they will add it L tax or no.

I think the problem most teams have is that they don’t see Morales as a long-term solution guy, and it is hard to give up your pick, money, and the years he wants for a guy that you probably just want to have around to fill a gap for 1 year.

The orioles would use him as a DH only so i dont think thats a concern, seeing they dont have anyone for that position coming up in the near future, their brightest of stars are all position players and pitchers (duh lol)

The Orioles are playing the system really well, once they lost their draft pick now the draft pick thing isn’t very meaningful anymore so they’re going after Santana & Morales, probably at discounted rates for both as well.

The more the merrier. Go for it. It is only Peter’s money that is at risk.

I’m not sure you can call the 4 years / $50MM they paid for Jimenez a “discounted” rate and that’s probably what it will take if the O’s want to sign Santana. Considering both have been pretty inconsistent over the past 2 or 3 years.

Common’ O’s, get this done!!!! We will have so much fire power top to bottom with a signing like this. And he wont command a huge contract. Decent OBP and a .280 career BA…ILL TAKE IT!!! Markakis, Machado, Jones, Davis, Morales, Hardy, Wieters, Lough, Flaherty/Weeks, would be a wonderful starting 9 (Not in any specific order, although, that could be a solid line-up lol). Improved Bull-Pen. And, “in theory” a young, DEVELOPING core of players poised to take the next steps in improving their games. People are taking notice and its really exciting for us Baltimorons. I agree NY is a no brainer landing spot for Kendrys. and i hope like Heck they dont write that check

I wish the Mets would sign this guy, Cruz, and Drew, instead we’re stuck with moer Tejada Davis garbage.

As an mariners fan I’m begging you to take this scrub and your praising your teams interests . This dude is a cancer with little production . He plays first or dh bc his true positions catcher he’s a liability . He’s fat and has poor work ethic and acts like a diva . Oh and he’s a HGH guy like Aroid ..

Every single one of you who wants him are stupid unless your team needs a momentary stop gap and doesn’t give up anything for him of consequence . Period !

    • theoriginal055 - Feb 21, 2014 at 6:09 PM

You’re a confused litle fella…. as a not mariners fan its obvious you think this article is about montero

  9. allidoiswin55 - Feb 22, 2014 at 4:45 AM
