Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin was limited to 14 games in 2013 due to wrist and knee injuries, and now his 2014 is off to a concerning start.

Maybin landed hard on his left shoulder while diving for a ball in Sunday afternoon’s Cactus League game vs. the Reds and will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Maybin, a former top prospect of the Tigers and then Marlins, has hit just .249/.311/.365 in 1,186 plate appearances since being traded to the Padres in 2010 for relivers Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica.

Maybin, 26, is under contract with San Diego through the 2017 season.

He is still owed $21 million in guaranteed salaries.

    Not really. China has value.

Guess it’s worth waiting to see the results of the MRI before passing judgement. Padres do pretty much have 5 OF’s they plan on platooning with Quentin, Venable, Denorfia, Seth Smith to go with Maybin.

Agreed: outfield depth isn’t an immediate problem. If Maybin’s out for any length of time then Venable or Denorfia can survive in CF. I might defenestrate my TV if Bud Black keeps starting Amarista out there. He just can’t play the position, and his bat certainly isn’t compensating.

The Padres got burned by their three extensions of cost-controlled players in 2012. Maybin, Cory Lubeke, and Nick Hundley haven’t contributed much since then.

Icanspeel-severity doesn’t matter with him. It could be called ‘Maybin Resonance Imaging’. God forbid he catches a cold, sneezes and punctures a lung or something.

Padres are a minor league team playing in a Major league park and charging major league prices.Just Say No! Also Maybin is lousy!

Chargrz-don’t be a dick. I’ll bet you don’t remember when your minor league reference WAS true. I watched them with my dad at Westgate Park and was there for the opening of the Murph. With or without Maybe(in), they could challenge the $odgers.
