Ryan Braun’s popularity and appeal is doing well

I guess artists are just misunderstood. How else to explain where Ryan Braun falls in the world of popularity of celebrity spokesman? From Darren Rovell’s story about Braun signing with a little-known cleat manufacturer, Braun’s first endorsement deal since his suspension:

As of December, Braun — who lost $3.3 million in salary as a result of the suspension — was known by 25 percent of U.S. consumers, according to the Davie Brown Index (DBI). The DBI data reflects that Braun’s appeal among consumers is in line with Donald Trump and Dennis Rodman, and his endorsement value currently ranks with Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds.

At least Rodman has served as an ambassador to North Korea (I think). What has Braun done? That’s right. I rest my case.

On the bright side, I suppose that Braun jersey at Sports Authority will never be cheaper than it is today.

  2. halladaysbiceps - Mar 12, 2014 at 10:44 AM

In that picture, Braun looks a lot like Brendan Fraser. Braun can act like him too. Just ask the specimen collector.

This tells me that not nearly enough has been made about Braun trying to ruin at least one person’s career in order to protect his lies.

People like that get elected to office every year.

      • drewsylvania - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:32 AM

True, but we hate them all.

      • bfunk1978 - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:42 AM

        Touché.

    • ezthinking - Mar 12, 2014 at 5:58 PM

Do you mean the guy that didn’t follow protocol as a pisss collector? That dude should thanks him or at least make peace with him. Oh wait, he already has.

The ‘offended’ man let it go. Maybe you should too.

  4. karlkolchak - Mar 12, 2014 at 10:53 AM

Guess the old saying about how it doesn’t matter what they say about you just so long as they spell your name right doesn’t apply if you’re looking for endorsement deals.

  5. stex52 - Mar 12, 2014 at 10:57 AM

Donald Trump and Dennis Rodman? Wow! That is heights of popularity. Maybe if he raises his sights a little he can get to Jeffrey Dahmer and Kim Jong Un.

If only Alex Rodriguez had raised his game to the level of art. Perhaps he wouldn’t have been the monster he is now

  7. chacochicken - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:08 AM

He needs to marry a cute, charming, folksy blonde gal. Then say that she really helped me put things in perspective and changed my life. People eat that bulls*^t up.

    • uwsptke - Mar 12, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Actually, he is (not sure about the blonde part). A co-worker’s son’s ex-girlfriend (yes, I know how absolutely ridiculous that sounds all typed-out like that) is one of the bridesmaids.

        “What’s that make us?”

        “Absolutely nothing!”

    Reblogged this on finallyrelevant.

    • karlkolchak - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:59 AM

Your blog’s title is spelled wrong…it should be completelyirrelevant.

      • tonyreyes - Mar 12, 2014 at 12:27 PM

your name is spelled wrong, it should be dickfacehonkie.

      • karlkolchak - Mar 12, 2014 at 2:59 PM

“Witty” rejoinders like that one totally provemy point.

      • lanflfan - Mar 12, 2014 at 4:06 PM

Maybe you would prefer “stillirrelevant” or “neverrelevent” as a blog title.

      • ezthinking - Mar 12, 2014 at 6:03 PM

Sweet to see someone bust out ‘honky.’

Oh, and I Reblogged this response thread on ‘whogivesafuk’

  9. kastout11 - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:47 AM

He’ll bounce back and have a monster season.

  10. djpostl - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:54 AM

“a little-known cleat manufacturer” says it all. They just want to ride the trainwreck for some free publicity.

  11. granadafan - Mar 12, 2014 at 11:55 AM

American consumers also know who Alex Rodriquez and OJ Simpson are also, but you don’t see sponsors lining up behind them. Braun is scum.

Proves that your recreational baseball fan could care less about enhancers. “Purist”,number crunchers and the fancy pants folks that vote on HOF induction do. MLB really doesn’t since they allow accused and verified enhancement users on the ballots. This guy got a man fired and dragged his name through the mud on a sunny day in Milwaukee. Got caught, went on a vacation for 50 games and pulled the “I’m humbled” card. Now he’s loved again. But oddly Bonds and A-Rod bear the brunt of the rage. Must be that good head of hair. What’s the difference between Pete Rose and this guy? Both did something considered unsavory, and Rose actually didn’t break a rule. His ban was Commish directed. Weird, you get three chances to use PEDs before a lifetime ban,but a dude bets for his team to win and he’s sent to the Phantom Zone. I love me some baseball!

  13. jolink653 - Mar 12, 2014 at 1:11 PM

So his endorsement value is in line with two disgraced ex-PED players who are almost universally disliked by players and fans, and his popularity is equal to someone who supports a communist dictatorship, speaks out against his own country, and has married a cow? And those are all good things?

    I like turtles.

Listen to the Ryan Braun interview on the link I’ve (hopefully) provided.

(If the link doesn’t show up, search for something like “Ryan Braun SiriusXM interview 3-7-14″.)

Six seconds in, you’ll hear twenty seconds of playing the victim.

I love how this guy plays the game, and do get a kick out of how he thumbs his nose at all.

This, however, is way over the line:

Initially I thought that this DBI mentioned in the article stood for Douche Bag Index……If that were the case Braun would compare very favorably to other
    “artists”.

  17. vegasjss - Mar 12, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Gonna have a big year! Hebrew Hammer baby!!

  18. lanflfan - Mar 12, 2014 at 4:22 PM

Lyin Braun in such illustrious company as Dennis “The Worm” Rodman, Donald “Did I file for bankruptcy this month” Trump, Roger “The Needle Man” Clemens and Barry ” * ” Bonds seems about right.

  19. zinger99 - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:11 AM

Once a cheat, always a cheat. A leopard doesn’t change his spots. Anyone who calls themselves a fan of this guy is a total sucker. Easy meat.
