FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals have agreed to a minor league deal with veteran right-hander Brett Tomko. This confirms a report from John Walk of the York Dispatch.

Tomko turns 41 in April and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2011 as a member of the Rangers, but he was reportedly throwing in the 90-93 mph during winter ball in the Dominican Republic and planned to audition for teams at the end of January. He’ll receive a salary of $510,000 if he makes it back to the majors.

Tomko owns a 4.65 ERA over a 14-year major league career, including a brief stint with the Royals in 2008. He pitched with the independent York Revolution last year.

Why not! Tomko is currently throwing harder than Sabathia. CC has had trouble reaching 88 MPH.

the royals sign a 40 year old hoping for one more time in the sun to a minor league contract and you use the occasion to slam the yankee rotation. having a little harry fun? lol

Harry made (a mild for him) comment on the Blue Jay thread earlier, so I decided to double dip with Sabathia, who has definitely lost some velocity this spring. It will be interesting to see if Sabathia can make it as a “crafty lefty”.

Ha ha, so true PC, but watch out the Yankee morons/apologists will be on you quicker than a Québécois on Poutine!

    good luck

Will Tomko join the ranks of Horacio Ramirez and Yuniesky Betancourt as once-and-future Royals under Dayton Moore?

Those guys worked out really well. Why not?

    Moreover, why not Nomo?

    Nomo more than ever?

A typical Royals move. Didn’t they Hideo Nomo 4 years after he last pitched in the big league a few years ago?

Just two seasons after, like Tomko at this point.

Well hell, they should sign Runelvys Hernandez while they’re at it.

    Blake Stein?

    Jose Rosado?

It may not be too late to try to coax Chad Durbin out of retirement. And that guy has a ring.

It’s ok… You’re going to have to have someone to pitch in Shields spot after you GIVE him away anyway. Why not a 40 year old…
If he can even MAKE it to July.
