Rays shave their heads for a good cause

Mar 16, 2014, 11:27 AM EDT

From Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune comes the following photo of Rays manager Joe Maddon getting a close shave Sunday in camp. Matt Joyce, Ben Zobrist, James Loney, and Jake McGee were among the other participants in “Fortune Favors The Bald,” a charity event for pediatric cancer.

Wil Myers opted against shaving off his mop, but he did make a $500 donation.

Will Myers is young and was probably wondering if chicks like shaved heads. Nice of him to contribute money to the cause.

Chicks dig shaving your head to raise money for pediatric cancer.

Besides, have you seen Wil Myers’ head of hair? Shaving that unwieldy mop would have been doing him a favor.

Perhaps. On the other hand, can the kid grow a decent beard?

Every time I want to dislike the Rays, they go and do something smart, or kind, or both. Good for them.

JoeMad looks young with a shaved head! I thought Farnesworth got lost at spring training there for a minute.

Good guys, for a good cause. They are always doing these types of things. A fun team to be a fan of. Although I hope a lot more did it than Mooney tweeted, because in it’s first year, over 70 organizational employees did it, even including owner Stuart Sternberg. Last year over 100 employees did it, including about a dozen or so players. Even Don Zimmer got in on the action and had his 3 Homer Simpson hairs lopped off. For 100 bucks, anybody could sit in the barbers chair with the Rays and get it done as well.

Follow up. Sternberg did it again. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bi22COPIIAA_xlg.jpg

Also, little Ava did a nice job on Joe, and he appreciates it.

Myers went on the boardwalk and got 5 volunteers and paid their $100 to get it shaved.
