Behold: Vin Scully with a koala

Mar 19, 2014, 10:30 AM EST

I see your Clayton Kershaw with a kangaroo and raise you Vin Scully with a koala:

My biggest takeaway is that Vin Scully travels around the world and still thinks to pack pocket squares. I go 300 miles and I’m 50/50 to remember underwear.

Impressed that Vic made the trip, given that he tends to stay near home these days. Guess the chance to go somewhere he’d never been before and also broadcast baseball was too good to pass up.

    • sdelmonte - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:35 AM

      EDIT: Vic? Vin, of course.

      • lanflfan - Mar 19, 2014 at 1:18 PM

Supposedly MLB “encouraged” him to go. And considering he won’t travel out of the western region, for Dodger games it was quite a feat to get him to agree to fly all the way to Sydney.

I don’t care for this publicity stunt, and the after effects of being off routine, jet lag/time zone fun twice and missing valuable spring training time.

    Awesome

  3. Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:36 AM

Um, just to his left, that brunette….

    • babyfarkmcgeezax - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:44 AM

      Sexism to the max

      • Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:45 AM

Sorry. Koalas don’t appeal to me that way.

    • sportsfan18 - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:54 AM

the brunette is actually to HIS right… not left…

Oh, Gator, when trying to click on the reply button, I accidently hit the report comment button by accident. I didn’t mean to do that which is why I’m stating so on here for all to see.

      • grumpyoleman - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:59 AM

They really need to separate those buttons. I know I’ve done it a time or two also.

      • Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 4:00 PM

That’s alright. There’s no nice way to discover that you have late onset dyslexia. Duhhhhh…..

  4. shawndc04 - Mar 19, 2014 at 10:54 AM

    Elegant, just elegant.

  5. pbastille - Mar 19, 2014 at 11:13 AM

    Zombie Koala…

  6. jjschiller - Mar 19, 2014 at 11:25 AM

Looking at the picture, I can hear Vin’s voice saying “Oh, that’s alright, that’s alright… You keep him. I can see him from here.”

  7. asimonetti88 - Mar 19, 2014 at 11:34 AM

Pocket squares are so underrated it’s ridiculous.

  8. APBA Guy - Mar 19, 2014 at 12:07 PM

And his tie is Dodger blue. Amazing.

    • historiophiliac - Mar 19, 2014 at 1:05 PM

This might be part of why MLB wanted the Dodgers to be one of the ambassadors to go over and play. Scully is kind of an ambassador’s ambassador.

      • Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 4:01 PM

        Does he speak Crimean?

  9. seanwasamarine - Mar 19, 2014 at 4:38 PM

Vin Scully is so overrated. He is one of the most boring broadcasters to listen to. Broadcasting is a 2 man job.

    • Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 5:22 PM

You, uh, suffered some shrapnel wounds to the head, maybe?

      • stevesherman161 - Mar 19, 2014 at 8:54 PM

I think it was Red Smith who said that baseball is only dull to dull minds.

Sean, you’re probably too young to remember when most radio broadcasts featured a lone man behind the mike, but most of us didn’t feel that Red Barber, Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell and the like needed any help. Vin Scully is the last and greatest of that generation. I feel only pity for those unable to appreciate him. (While admitting that I laughed out loud at Old Gator’s reply.)

  10. aceshigh11 - Mar 19, 2014 at 5:51 PM

He looks like a million bucks. Hard to believe he’s 86…bless him.

    • Old Gator - Mar 19, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Yes he does. I didn’t realize that koalas lived that long.

  11. stevesherman161 - Mar 19, 2014 at 8:45 PM

That Vin Scully will do the telecasts from Australia is the best news I’ve had all day.

  12. seanwasamarine - Mar 20, 2014 at 3:34 AM

I respect the historical aspect Vin Scully brings to the booth and yes he is the last of his kind. But it doesn’t mean that I can’t think he’s boring to listen to. Thom Brennaman is in my opinion the best broadcaster and I’m not even a Reds fan. And Gator, I fortunately didn’t get injured in either of my 2 combat deployments to Iraq. Just to clear up your idiotic assumption.
