Here’s the first pitch of the 2014 season

Mar 22, 2014, 6:35 AM EDT

After a slight weather delay, play got underway between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks in Australia just after 5 a.m. EDT this morning, and a long winter officially ended with Wade Miley pitching to Yasiel Puig.

Miley went on to strike out Puig on three pitches.

The game has been pretty good the crowd seems into every pitch! Amazed they let Kershaw go 101 pitches that was unexpected.

I’ve been watching since the 7th because children are awful. It’s great to see meaningful baseball again and the stadium looks fantastic.

Glad to see you made lemonade out of children. I just watched it delayed.

Good to have baseball back but not really a long winter. Only 141 days between the end of last season and today. Might be the shortest off season ever.

I really hope cooperstown is not littered with balls of such non importance as that one. Maybe a charity auction, but it doesn’t really have historical value

It was the first major league game played in Australia, pretty significant.

Not sure what the significance is other than two major league games played down under. So what’s the significance other than the game was played there? If MLB wants to open each season with two games in different countries, so what? Sure, maybe a few more international fans, but beyond that the “historical” element is way overplayed.

That was the gayest fackin pitch I ever did see.

Really, there was a game that counted being played? I really have to take some focus off my brackets.
