HBT Extra: Previewing the AL Central

Mar 24, 2014, 3:04 PM EDT

You or your mom may be playing shortstop for ‘em, but aren’t the Tigers still the favorites? And which team is friskier: the Indians or the Royals? Kay and I break it down:

FYI, my mom has incredible wrist strength for a woman her size/age. She wouldn’t be dropping any balls. She might have Jeter’s range though. Her smack talk is pretty good. Tigers could probably do worse….or are…whatever.

I’m sure your mom is a very nice lady, and I so I will refrain from all of my juvenile comments that I want to make…

      • historiophiliac - Mar 24, 2014 at 3:14 PM

You ought to. She can throw a shoe pretty far.

      • Old Gator - Mar 24, 2014 at 3:19 PM

The question is, could she throw a shoe further than my ex-wife could throw a dinnerplate?

      • historiophiliac - Mar 24, 2014 at 3:26 PM

Not kidding, she played in her softball league while she was 8 months pregnant with me. They let her catch, thinking it was safer than fielding…

    1. Indians (93-69)
    2. Tigers (89-73)
    3. Royals (84-78)
    4. White Sox (68-94)
    5. Twins (67-95)

Could you make me a sandwich as long as you’re up getting the soda crackers?

      • historiophiliac - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:20 PM

Oh, is Old Papi at bat?

    • spudchukar - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:22 PM

      1. Tigers (94-68)
      2. Royals (86-76) WC
      3. Indians (82-80)
      4. White Sox (74-88)
      5. Twins (58-104)

      • happytwinsfan - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:26 PM

58-104, you’re not even being polite. i will either remind of your vile prediction next september, or quietly forgot that you made it !!!!

      • spudchukar - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:28 PM

I’m sorry, I really am. I like the Twins, lot of friends here in Idaho, are ardent fans, but those pitching acquisitions this past off-season are borderline suicide.

      • aceshigh11 - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:29 PM

I think the Twins are more 48-114, maybe even 38-124.

      • spudchukar - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:31 PM

I was trying to be kind.

      • happytwinsfan - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:36 PM

okay spud, you’re forgiven. but borderline suicide, come on. basically they have everybody they had last year plus nolascko and hughes. maybe that’s not adding much, but it’s not subtraction. oh well, we’ll see.

i predict they go 73 – 89. whoever is the furthest off owes the other one a virtual chocolate sundae. bet ?

      • spudchukar - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:38 PM

You’re on, as long as the winner didn’t win an ice-fishing trip to Bemidji.

      • happytwinsfan - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:40 PM

alright aces, you’re on too. my 73-89 versus your 48-114. virtual chocolate sunday for whoever’s closest, all the fixins. are you up to it?

      • stephenolszewski - Mar 24, 2014 at 7:44 PM

Sadly I can see the Indians going 82-80, starting 5 is very questionable outside of Masterson it’s all what if’s. Salazar has a lot of upside especially the way he pitched last year, and Kluber and McCallister have proven in the big leagues they can pitch well. I just don’t know if they have a 5th starter that’ll be good enough Tomlin looked good but that was 2-3 years ago. Also a power bat is much needed, this needs to be a big year from Santana so we can have a bat in the middle of our line up.

    • happytwinsfan - Mar 24, 2014 at 4:23 PM

twins at 67 – 95! i’ll have you know that no less than one of the twins expected five starters projects to have an era under 4!!!

  3. happytwinsfan - Mar 24, 2014 at 7:43 PM

    1. kansas city (95-57) – because it’s time for the sun to shine in KC
    2. cleveland (90-72) – because it’s time for it not to suck in cleveland
    3. tigers (81-81) – because sht happens
    4. twins (73-89) – because we’re not there yet but we’re on our way
    5. white sox (62-100) – because i have in laws that root for the white sox

    • ksbuff - Mar 25, 2014 at 12:12 AM

I like your predictions. But why did the Royals only have to play 152 games?
