Texas hasn’t officially changed its Opening Day plans yet, but T.R. Sullivan of reports that Yu Darvish is unlikely to make his Game 1 start because of a stiff neck.

For now general manager Jon Daniels is saying the Rangers could simply push back Darvish’s start, basically moving him to the end of the rotation, which wouldn’t require placing him on the disabled list.

Darvish was initially scratched from his scheduled start Friday when he woke up with a stiff neck and … well, basically every piece of injury news for the Rangers has been a bummer lately, so this fits. Texas was already beginning the season without Derek Holland and Matt Harrison in the rotation.

Despite dealing with back and hip problems last season Darvish was fantastic for the Rangers, starting 32 games and logging 210 innings with a 2.83 ERA and MLB-leading 277 strikeouts.

He’s got CBS, Clay Bucholz Syndrome, he should only miss a start or two, right?

Welcome to the Jon Daniels era, where pitching, defense, and conditioning take a back seat to players being able to hit home runs. Daniels should take a hint, the Rangers have been down this road before and it didn’t translate into winning the Worlds Series.

Jon Daniels became the GM of the Rangers in 2005, which is 5 years before you hopped on the bandwagon.

Yeah, because no one EVER got hurt when Nolan Ryan was part of the orginization.

Tuck your FWST Galloway column between your arms and mosey on back across the street to that bastion of perpetual blue and silver mediocrity where you belong.

Yeah, because no one EVER got hurt when Nolan Ryan was part of the orginization.

Is this when we call out how Ryan was going to change the pitching philosophy and make his pitchers throw more, more innings, etc because it’ll prevent injuries?

Yeah, that makes sense. I knew they signed Darvish for his home run power.

I got a feeling it’s worse than a just stiff neck from sleeping wrong. That kind of pain doesn’t last that long unless there is something else.

They open against the Phillies. He could roll the ball up there and still win
