A’s rained out at home for first time since 1998

Apr 1, 2014, 9:05 PM EDT

Tuesday night’s game between the Indians and A’s had to be postponed due to storms in the Oakland area. This tweet from MLB.com’s Jane Lee seems like some sort of April Fools’ gag, but it’s not …

The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.

    Rained out or “sewaged” out?

  2. clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 9:15 PM

This is why you never start the season in the midwest or northeast.

    • johnnysoda - Apr 1, 2014 at 9:48 PM

Or, by this logic, why you never play outside, anywhere, ever.

        DOMED STADIUMS FOR ALL!

Do you know where California is? Because it’s not in those places.

      • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 10:39 PM

you are going to have to explain that one to me.

Since when is Oakland in the Midwest or Northeast?

Do the A’s play in either of those cities?

  3. ufostomper - Apr 1, 2014 at 9:30 PM

Umm but Oakland is in the west

    • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 10:40 PM

there are many oaklands. Not all of them are in the west. In fact, most aren’t

      • twinfan24 - Apr 1, 2014 at 11:15 PM

There may be other Oaklands, but were any of the others scheduled to host an MLB game today? This is a site about MLB, so I assume you would know that was the game they were talking about. I get that you were probably trying to be funny in your original post. But, others have deemed it not funny, hence more down thumbs than up. Just understand that joke didn’t work and let it go. Don’t keep trying to chase the joke that didn’t happen.

      • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 11:18 PM

another in a long line of sewer jokes gets thumbs up.

I am fine getting thumbs down. I don’t take that as a meter of how good a joke is.

The Rays would have been better off tonight with a rainout in their horrible dome. Yes, it can rain in domes, happened once to the Astros.

Tampa Bay drew flies again tonight, looked like 5000, LOL

    • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 10:58 PM

did you see the walk around the stadium with (some team official, I don’t know the rays people). Very proud of their new “standing rail.” Such innovation!

    • twinfan24 - Apr 1, 2014 at 11:16 PM

Technically, it didn’t rain in the dome to the Astros. The rain outside was so bad it prevented the umps from making it to the Astrodome, which led to the cancellation of a game.

Clydesarra do you even watch baseball or did you not even know who the Oakland A’s were?

    • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 10:56 PM

were? seems you may need some book learnin.

Have the A’s asked their mayor for a retractable roof?

    • clydeserra - Apr 1, 2014 at 11:07 PM

true story: Mayor Quan was at the 2012 playoff game that the A’s won in a walk off (She was likely at them all). She was in the second deck most of the way in right field. Got a picture of her with my kids.

Also, she was at a 15 or 17 inning game in june in that year too. She has made lots of noise about keeping the A’s. Putting forward plans that don’t have clear paths to approval or funding. I think she is genuinely an A’s fan, wich would have been helpful in the 2000s when jerry brown was mayor and told the A’s to pound sand.

Nice sarcasm in your original comment, Clyde. Too bad everyone missed it.

Folks, as you can tell from the “first rainout since 1998″ it very, very rarely rains here in April. But’s been raining hard most of the day today, after a lot of rain yesterday. And because the A’s are a low-budget team, they have a very, very small grounds staff. Thus, bad weather means they can’t get the field in shape quickly. It’s still raining now, at 10 PM, so let’s hope they get the games in tomorrow.

But as everyone here will tell you, we need the rain. This will bring us to around 50% of our seasonal average.
