There were some awesome signs being held up by fans last night

Apr 2, 2014, 12:30 PM EDT

Ever since the Supreme Court outlawed literacy tests for ticket buying, we’ve had to put up with stuff like this.

Frankly, as a fan of the Atlanta Barves, I have no problem with this. Go Barves. And:

Now, there is a chance that this one is not a function of stupidity but, rather, a sarcastic take on the dumb fan response we saw so much of on Twitter after Ellsbury signed with the Yankees. People legitimately calling him a “trader” and such. At least, for her sake, I hope that’s what she was doing.

  1. Stacey - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:31 PM

    She still spelled Ellsbury wrong.

    • spudchukar - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:36 PM

Correct you are, but that is an easy error to make.

      • forsch31 - Apr 2, 2014 at 9:11 PM

Yeah, in this day and age, where the hey would anybody go to double-check the spelling of somebody’s name?

    • Francisco (FC) - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:36 PM

It’s not that hard people! Remember the Pillsbury ads? Pillsbury/Ellsbury. Just remember the fluffy delicious crescent rolls and you’ll spell Jacoby’s name right every single time.

      • themuddychicken - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Or “Taco Bell”, as in Tacoby Bellsbury, courtesy of the 2007 World Series.

    • chiadam - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:46 PM

I’m stunned that the blonde wearing the cammo hat leaned to the side doesn’t know the players better than that. She’s clearly a hardcore baseball fan. Right?

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:56 PM

        *camo

    • Caught Looking - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:49 PM

And we were led to believe it was the jocks that were the dumb ones

  2. chiadam - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:34 PM

    USA! USA! USA!

    • spudchukar - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:36 PM

      USA! SAU! ASU!

      • renaado - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:54 PM

For me this is actually good to make it in for some cheerleading rhyme.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:13 PM

I wish I could give you more than one thumb up for that.

      • spudchukar - Apr 2, 2014 at 2:14 PM

Thanks, and you are spot on about the hat.

  3. tfbuckfutter - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:55 PM

This is exactly why girls have no place in sports.

    • chiadam - Apr 2, 2014 at 12:59 PM

      Or spelling bees.

    • Professor Fate - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:11 PM

Hey, cut that one fan some slack. It was Dyslexic Day in Fran Sancisco!

      • Gamera the Brave - Apr 2, 2014 at 3:48 PM

And, by Fran Sancisco, you mean Arinoza…

    • sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:17 PM

      Why not? Athletes like sandwiches.

    • historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:18 PM

…said the dude who just burned his wife’s pink jersey.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:23 PM

I would have burned it the day my sister bought it for her….but it was her birthday and she was already being all uppity since I let her out of the basement and all.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:25 PM

I think it’s your sister that is the problem. She should be banned from baseball.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:27 PM

I have no control over my sister.

She has her own male figure to guide her behavior.

I will make a note to discuss my sister’s behavior with him at our next NO MA’AM meeting.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:40 PM

The patriarchy is crumbling that you have allowed it to continue thus far without stepping in to correct. I hope you’ve let him know he is a poor representation of manhood.

  4. bills56shout - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:04 PM

No one notices “trader” should be spelled “traitor”?

    • chiadam - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Yep, no one noticed. Thanks for the pointer.

    • southpaw2k - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:09 PM

But what if he IS a trader? What if he uses eTrade or eBay? What if he traded baseball cards when he was a kid? What if he pulled the “I’ll give you my apple for your chocolate pudding” deal in grade school?

Even though his name is misspelled, she may still be accurate in labeling him a trader.

      • spudchukar - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:13 PM

Then she had to misspell that too.

  5. mundial8 - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:04 PM

I should’ve taken pics of the signs these girls in Cincy had 2 years where Votto had his knee issue. The sign said ‘Joey, I don’t have bad knees’ Drew Stubbs was on the team too ‘Hey Drew, can I see your Stubb?

    Silly, silly girls.

  6. dowhatifeellike - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:07 PM

She’s not wrong, she’s just letting us know how Jacoby is investing his earnings.

  7. Professor Fate - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:08 PM

After some diligent research (read: hacking) I’ve discovered that Ellsbury is in the witness protection program, having been on the payroll of UBS back in 2011 when they flushed $2 billion away in unauthorized trading. He testified for the government and had to assume a new identity. This young lady has ferreted him out and wants the world to know (she was likely one of those who lost a fortune). What I really want to know is what the feds have done with the real Ellsbury.

  8. tfbuckfutter - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:13 PM

Also, I don’t take any attack on him seriously, spelled right or not, unless it addresses him as Jerkoby Smellsbury.

Seriously. It’s right there in front of you. Use it.

  9. historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:16 PM

I appreciate your attempt to see the glass half full here, Craig, but her hat placement indicates otherwise.

  10. skerney - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:36 PM

Grammatical errors are the cheep, low hanging fruit that no one on the internet can reesist.

    • historiophiliac - Apr 2, 2014 at 1:43 PM

      *internets

        He’s still in the minors.

  12. mikhelb - Apr 2, 2014 at 2:59 PM

Two days ago there was a guy with a couple of signs against Canó, one in english, the other one in spanish saying exactly the same (that he went for the $). Made me chuckle.

  13. jayquintana - Apr 2, 2014 at 4:51 PM

Doesn’t Ellsbury have a finance degree? What’s the problem?
