VIDEO: Giancarlo Stanton hits his first home run of 2014

Apr 2, 2014, 10:04 PM EDT

Watch as Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton drives an 0-1 pitch from Rockies starter Jordan Lyles into the right-field home-team bullpen on Wednesday night in Miami …

It’s rare to see a hitter go oppo at Marlins Park, a power-sapping stadium. Only Giancarlo.

He hit the game winning HR foul. He seems to be a lot comfortable at the plate so far this year.

Yes, a flick of the bat and what for the Iron Giant was a singularly unspectacular dingular awakens Tommy the Horrible. But the Feesh had already bumbled away the game in the first four innings. More at seven.

Dude, Your name is MIKE.! Where the bleep did u get Giancarlo from?? … Giancarlo Jordan? Giancarlo Schmidt? Giancarlo Piazza? Giancarlo Trout? Giancarlo Tyson? It just sounds so wrong. Anyone else got any Mike’s who should change their name to “Giancarlo”?

I always think Mike Stanton first. It will still take time to get used to.

He may have changed it because there was a long-tenured relief pitcher named Mike Stanton.

Actually, his name IS Giancarlo. He went by Mike.

“Where the bleep did u get Giancarlo from?? ”

Probably from his birthname? Michael is his middle name, he only went by it because people couldn’t pronounce Giancarlo properly. But now that he is a baseball superstar, he can go by whatever he wants and people will have to learn how to pronounce it.

QB Giancarlo Vick? Swimmer Giancarlo Phelps? “King of Pop” Giancarlo Jackson. Oh man, I gotta stop.

His name was always Giancarlo. The Marlins for some reason referred to him by his middle name, Michael. I don’t know how that started. Two seasons ago he finally corrected them. He seems to be about the most easy going young man on the planet to have let it go until 2012. But after a season of “Mike” if he wants to be known by the name his parents gave him rather than the one the Marlins FO thinks he should have, then who are we to tell him what to do?
