Yu Darvish breaks an MLB strikeouts record

Apr 6, 2014, 2:50 PM EST

Rangers ace Yu Darvish reached a pretty cool milestone and broke a 13-year-old major league record in the process Sunday in his 2014 regular-season debut against the Rays …

Not including Sunday’s line, the 27-year-old right-hander owns a 3.34 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 11.2 K/9 in his young major league career. He finished second in the 2013 American League Cy Young Award balloting.

As ridiculous as present day contracts are, Yu Davirsh is money well spent. Hopefully Tanaka proves to be nearly as valuable

At 10 million/yr, Darvish is almost criminally underpaid by today’s standards. When compared to Tanaka’s $155 Million, which I know is comparing apples/oranges due to the change in posting rules, I bet he is going to carry a chip on his shoulder this year. It won’t surprise me to have a CY YOUNG season, if the Rangers can score enough to prevent him from losing four 1-0 games again, that last year.About as polished as a 27 year old can be. He and Jose Fernandez in the NL might be the 2 favorites this year.

    Congrats to Yu!

In a year or less we’ll get to read about how Craig Kimbrel crushed this record.
