Added to the Rangers’ rotation following a rash of injuries, left-hander Joe Saunders is now headed to the disabled list with a bruised ankle.

Saunders hurt his ankle on a comebacker Friday, leaving his Rangers debut after allowing five runs in 3.2 innings.

Yu Darvish is back in the rotation and Colby Lewis and/or Matt Harrison may soon be ready to join him, so healthy or injured Saunders’ window to convince the Rangers he’s worth keeping around is closing.

I don’t want players to get hurt but I’m glad they can DL him. The fewer number of starts Saunders makes for Tex, the better.
