David Ortiz parodied on “Saturday Night Live”

Apr 13, 2014, 2:27 PM EDT

Red Sox DH David Ortiz was parodied by Kenan Thompson on the most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live.” It’s not the best impression and some are even calling it ethnic stereotyping. You decide …

Ortiz, for what it’s worth, offered a stamp of approval Sunday on Twitter …

If your offended by that skit then just go back to bed, get a grip, spot on, great job and funny.

    • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:30 PM

And I just watched it. I was offended, and everyone else should be offended by it too. It was incredibly insensitive and offensive to anyone who has a functioning sense of humor.

It wasn’t even so terrible it was funny. It was just terrible.

      • baseballisboring - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:47 PM

wowwwwwwwww, you’re really one of the good people! pat on the back.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:43 PM

I’m one of the good people who has a properly functioning sense of humor.

Anyone who thought that was funny is an idiot.

      • chunkala - Apr 13, 2014 at 7:01 PM

Am I alone in hating tbuckfutter; Truly a mf-er.

      • johnnysoda - Apr 13, 2014 at 8:48 PM

I like the self-righteousness of this. “I was offended, and everyone else should be offended by it too”. Please.

      • clydeserra - Apr 13, 2014 at 10:00 PM

people must hate you. there are a lot of thumbs down for simply stating facts. that was not funny in the slightest.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 14, 2014 at 7:19 AM

johnnysoda, perhaps learning to comprehend what you have read would lead to fewer misinterpretations of what you have read in the future.

  2. metalhead65 - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:34 PM

if by some you mean the pc police then I don’t even have to watch it to say I love it.

    • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:47 PM

When you post dumb comments it makes me assume you’re dumb.

So I’m not saying you should stop doing it. I’m just saying this comment makes me think you’re probably dumb.

      • metalhead65 - Apr 13, 2014 at 5:09 PM

you can think whatever you want, personally I think you are arrogant jack ass for thinking I am dumb. I for one am sick of having everything go through the pc police and getting their approval before I can laugh about about something. I am offended that they find everything offensive. you either find something funny or you don’t there is no need to to make a statement about what was meant by it because you did not find it funny.offensive or not I am going to side with just because I do not like being told how I should think.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 7:04 PM

        I care what you think.

      • timmmah10 - Apr 14, 2014 at 10:35 AM

You don’t care what others think, however, you seem to think everyone cares what you think…

Congrats on spending your time looking like an idiot.

  3. tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:38 PM

I’m going to pass. I try to limit how much SNL I watch, although they do occasionally have some funny stuff.

This is totally obscure, but does anyone remember the late night sports card show that used to be on? Where they would try and sell you awful packages of cards, and I think the company that owned the show eventually bought Collector’s Edge?

SNL once did a bit about that show and it was absolutely hysterical. This was maybe 1994 or 1995….but the guys just kept screaming “YOU GET THE SHAQ PLAQUE! THE SHAQ PLAQUE!”….It was the same guys who did that knife show where the guy broke the sword and it sliced his arm open.

God I really miss that company.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, Keenan mostly sucks.

    • indaburg - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:40 PM

The only thing I found offensive is how awful Kenan Thompson continues to be. Couldn’t SNL find a funnier token? Does anyone think he’s funny?

As a Dominican-American, I would have found funny ethnic stereotyping about my people amusing–emphasis on funny.

      • baberuthslegs - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:29 PM

I’m glad you said Kenan isn’t funny. I was wondering if there was something wrong with me for not laughing at him.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:42 PM

That was my point above. It was offensive in how unfunny it was.

What the hell was even the joke aside from his impersonation?

There were absolutely no jokes in that skit.

Writer: “You’re going to list foods repeatedly.”
        Actor: “That’s not a joke.”
Writer: “They’re ethnic foods and you’re going to do it in an accent.”
        Actor: “HILARIOUS!”

      • ptfu - Apr 13, 2014 at 8:47 PM

I honestly thought the chicken line was going toward a Red Sox chicken-and-beer reference. For crying out loud, they talked about beer just after the chickens. All I ended up with was “huh?”

Papi in a barn with 100,000 chickens running around could be funny in a slapstick kind of way. Or if he’d said how hard/fun it is to deposit 100K chickens at the bank. But this…just fell flat.

Is it possible for something to be too dumb to be insulting?

  4. commonsenseisnotcmonman - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:52 PM

Its easy to confuse stereotyping on SNL with “really bad acting/writing”.

  5. paperlions - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:53 PM

Man, now I’m really hungry….I haven’t had tostones or yucca frita or mofungo or well…any good fried Caribbean food for a long time.

  6. chip56 - Apr 13, 2014 at 2:55 PM

A Bostonian accusing someone else of racial insensitivity…now that’s comedy.

    • zackd2 - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:11 PM

Just Boston media just preemptively sticking up for their favorite team that they report on. Nothing new.

  7. baseballisboring - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:02 PM

so basically if you imitate an accent it’s ethnic stereotyping. right.

    • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:30 PM

I bet you do an awesome guy-who-works-at-711 don’t you?

      • baseballisboring - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:48 PM

nope, can’t do accents, what’s your point?

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 5:00 PM

You’re qualified to work for SNL.

  8. sandpiperair - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:19 PM

The most surprising thing here is that Ortiz is friends with Rachel Dratch.

    • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 3:32 PM

I think it’s more surprising that 114,000 people follow her.

    • lukedunphysscienceproject - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:22 PM

She’s from a suburb of Boston and is a huge Red Sox fan.

  9. zengreaser - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:41 PM

I’m not sure anyone is technically allowed to be outraged if the guy being imitated is cool with it.

  10. tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 4:44 PM

He should stick to doing his Delmon Young impersonation.

    I.E. just being fat.

    • halfthemoney - Apr 13, 2014 at 6:47 PM

      That’s offensive and not funny.

      • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 7:06 PM

If you’re saying that you work for SNL and are offering me a job please e-mail me.

      • dangle13x - Apr 14, 2014 at 3:11 PM

Just to reiterate, I really love the camaraderie being displayed against this raging douche bag tfbckfutter. Any sad sack of trash that spends hours scouring message boards with divisive, asinine opinions deserves all the hate that comes his way.

  11. drewzducks - Apr 13, 2014 at 5:09 PM

Chico Escuela would like an explanation.

  12. bigmeechy74 - Apr 13, 2014 at 6:51 PM

Don’t care whether it’s offensive or not, but I care that it’s one of the least funny things I’ve ever seen.

  13. negaduck - Apr 13, 2014 at 7:20 PM

it was considered racist when bob griese said juan pablo montoya was out having a taco. he was suspended for a week.

so im not surprised people are saying it is racist to claim ortiz was paid for his samsung endorsement with 100,000 chickens

this is the world we are living in

  14. yahmule - Apr 13, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Good Burger was funny. **** anyone who didn’t like it.

    • tfbuckfutter - Apr 13, 2014 at 8:29 PM

That and Howard the Duck are really great movies to watch when you are really stoned.

Also, Salute Your Shorts. It’s not a movie but so what?

      • negaduck - Apr 13, 2014 at 8:40 PM

Salute Your Shorts was better than a movie. And should be a movie. Lets make a movie, I’ll get donkey lips on the phone now.

  15. vivabear - Apr 13, 2014 at 9:18 PM

Bobby Budnick was a bad ass. Rode a cool dirt bike in T2 as well.

  16. ssj455 - Apr 14, 2014 at 1:08 PM

He’s a black so it is not racist.

  17. dangle13x - Apr 14, 2014 at 3:06 PM

I thought the impersonation was pretty solid for SNL standards, which are obviously low these days. My biggest takeaway from this is how much people agree that tfbuckfutter is an assuming douche bag.

  18. ohmuzgawd - Apr 22, 2014 at 9:57 PM

As a Domincan, I found this hilarious. And my mom, born in Dominican Republic from Dominican parents, saw it and laughed just as hard, if not more.
