A.J. Burnett left his last start on Friday with soreness in his groin. Today he was diagnosed with a a small inguinal hernia, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He’ll make his next start on Wednesday and, based on his discomfort level, he will attempt to pitch through the remainder of the season with it. It’s apparently something that is fairly common and can be managed with injections.

Pirates wanted him back, because of his wife he wanted to be even closer to his home, so he chose Philly.

What does the health of Burnett’s pet Iguana have to do with his pitching?

His new warmup song should be “Living with a Hernia” by Weird Al.

I can only hope the PA of a visiting ballpark will go this route.

I don’t know about anybody else, but injections to a hernia area doesn’t seem “simple” to me.

Well there’s something in there with his balls, but it isn’t steel. It’s his intestines.
