Dustin Pedroia returns to Red Sox starting lineup

Apr 16, 2014, 6:11 PM EDT

WEEI’s Rob Bradford has the Red Sox lineup for Wednesday’s game in Chicago …

Dustin Pedroia is back in there, leading off and playing second base, after getting a cortisone injection Monday to help with the inflammation in his left wrist. He served as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement on Tuesday night and reported no issues. Mike Napoli is absent from the lineup with a dislocated left ring finger that he suffered Tuesday on a head-first dive into second base. He is considered day-to-day.

Maybe they’ll actually score some runs tonight.

Oh, does that say Gomes is batting cleanup?

    Nevermind.

That injury must have been terrible. What did he miss 1 game?

Love Pedroia. Yanks fan here, but the “rivalry” isn’t good without good players. I can’t hate good players. Pedroia is good for the Red Sox, good for the rivalry, good for baseball. I hope he bounces right back.

I’m with you about about the RS in general and Pedroia specifically but you have to wonder if the RS and or Pedroia aren’t seeing the big picture. It’s early in the season, .. too early to be taking cortisone shots. Perhaps resting him might be the better course of action. If he screws up his wrist he could be headed to an injury trajectory along the lines of Teixeria.

Give the little fella credit but in the case discretion might be the better part of valor.

Good to see you BH. It’s been a while. Hope you keep posting.

He’ll play through just about anything if you let him. If tore a ligament in his thumb on opening day last year and went on the lead the American League in plate appearances.
