Photo of the Day: Brian Wilson being Brian Wilson

Apr 16, 2014, 12:38 PM EDT

UPDATE: apparently this is not a photo of the day or even the year. It’s from a couple years ago. Oh well. Sorry about that, folks.

I used to talk about Brian Wilson‘s “act” but he’s been at this eight or nine years now, so I’m pretty sure we’re face-to-face with the real deal at this point:

How Tim Lincicum holds down the nickname of “Freak” with Brian Wilson out there is beyond me.

    • vivabear - Apr 16, 2014 at 12:50 PM

      That’s Lincecum in the US.

    He tries too hard

    • ashoreinhawaii - Apr 16, 2014 at 4:42 PM

Bingo! You got it bang on. An embarrassing friend we’ve all had. Thinks he’s a riot when he’s really a train wreck.

      • scatterbrian - Apr 16, 2014 at 6:27 PM

Hmm, really? People can’t simply show individuality?

I fully understand there are people who are different for the sake of being different. But how is that any worse than being the same as everyone else for the sake of being the same as everyone else?

      • scatterbrian - Apr 16, 2014 at 6:32 PM

Plus, if you have friends that embarrass you, you aren’t a very good friend. Either stop being friends with those people, or accept them for who they are and have their backs. F— what other people think.

Is “brotarded” a word? I feel like it should be a word.

  4. blabidibla - Apr 16, 2014 at 12:52 PM

There is nothing unusual about anyone riding that kind of vehicle through the streets of San Francisco.

    • illuminancer - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:37 PM

I think Wilson might have been the one to start the trend on the Giants, but now half the team has one because one of the clubhouse guys has a side business customizing scooters.

What’s truly awesome though is that the scooter thing is associated with Hunter Pence.

    • anxovies - Apr 16, 2014 at 6:16 PM

A little disappointing, though, shouldn’t it be a Segway?

      • blabidibla - Apr 17, 2014 at 10:06 AM

        Why, is it 2005?

  5. tbird05 - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM

It would be better if the little basket was on the front.

  6. brewcrewfan54 - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:02 PM

This guy’s act was amusing at first. Now its just tiresome.

    • historiophiliac - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:13 PM

But you’d still better watch your girlfriend around him.

      • illuminancer - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:23 PM

Why? I wouldn’t touch that man with a 40-foot pole. Who knows what’s living in that beard?

  7. corky2141 - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:06 PM

Look at me, I’m cool. Look at me please somebody look at me. Look at me

    • chinahand11 - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:59 PM

Exactly. I am so tired of this guy’s act. He wins the “hey look at me” prize over Curt “where’s the camera?” Schilling.

  8. kcq101 - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:12 PM

Rocking the Marty McFly sneakers. Are those laces self-tying?

  9. braddavery - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:33 PM

It’s a fact that the vast majority of baseball fans do not like players who express even small doses of non-conformist personality. Look at most of the posts in articles about players like Wilson… and Bryce Harper to a much lesser extent. Shame on them for not being meatheads who act and speak like robot baseball players while posting selfies of themselves with hot chicks and eating at restaurants with their friends and the everyday, boring minutia and talking points 95% of professional athletes throw at us on a daily basis! Be a boring robot who lives and breathes baseball and we will like you!

    • fearlessleader - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:21 PM

I love lots of non-conformists. Brian Wilson makes me want to barf. Both these things can be true.

      • braddavery - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:22 PM

I agree. But clearly I wasn’t talking about you.

    • illuminancer - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:22 PM

Please. I’m a Giants fan. We love our players and their personalities. Sure our franchise player is kind of a baseball robot straight from the Square Jawed White Guy factory, but our roster includes a goofy dork from East Texas, who blogs about movies, his dog and the Olive Garden, a closer no one thought would make it in the majors who has opinions and isn’t shy about sharing them, and a right fielder who made this video to make fun of himself.

I don’t like Brian Wilson because he concealed his arm problems in 2011 and then got angry that the Giants were reluctant to give big closer bucks to a guy coming off TJ’s #2. He wasn’t around during 2012 until the postseason, when he made sure to be in the dugout when the cameras were running. And the last straw was when he ruined what we all thought was going to be Lincecum’s last start at AT&T as a Giant by pitching a public hissy fit at the CEO of the team about the ring he didn’t do anything to earn. Having a personality is awesome in a player. Wilson made the mistake of letting his shtick become more important than his job.

      • braddavery - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:26 PM

Since when was this article/discussion about his baseball career.

    • ashoreinhawaii - Apr 16, 2014 at 4:50 PM

There are the selfie narcissist, and the bozo narcissist. Wilson is the latter. Even if he thinks he’s a witty non-conformist, he’s just a self-serving bore, just like those selfie types.

      • braddavery - Apr 16, 2014 at 5:13 PM

The fact that you are so angry about it tells me all I need to know…

  10. baseballisboring - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:37 PM

It’s so narrow to assume anyone that’s weird like him is acting. He grew up in my town just a few grades above me…I know tons of people that know him. Trust me, dude is wayyy out there.

    • baseballisboring - Apr 16, 2014 at 1:38 PM

Not saying he doesn’t like the camera, but he’s authentically strange.

  11. holleywood9 - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:15 PM

    Old pic. 2012! Great research…

    • rocketsteadman - Apr 16, 2014 at 2:22 PM

The research department has been a little slow today

  12. hardkor07mn - Apr 16, 2014 at 7:58 PM

This guy is such a puke! GO AWAY ALREADY
