Watch a chicken play baseball

Apr 18, 2014, 4:31 PM EDT

Really, that’s all this is. A chicken playing baseball. Found by the folks over at MLB.com’s CUT 4. It’s quite a thing.

The best part: he hits better than B.J. Upton. And, because he was conditioned to play the game by being rewarded with chicken feed, he costs far less than B.J. Upton does too.

What did B. J. Upton ever do to upset Atlanta fans? He isn’t the person who offered him a ton of money.

      “What did B. J. Upton ever do…”

To start with he signed there. And, I think the questions is; what didn’t he do? The answer is clearly “enough”.

The contract seemed decent at the time. It’s just that Upton has seemingly lost the ability to hit. Now, I don’t think blaming the player makes a lot of sense, since presumably he is trying hard and doing his best. But that is inevitably what happens.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttt, I’ve got to dig out my playin’ days.

Excellent form, chicken. I wonder if we could get real contact out of you with better incentives.

That chicken would be deadly if she learned how to pull the ball.

  4. rbj1 - Apr 18, 2014 at 4:55 PM

That chicken plays baseball The Right Way. You can tell she has The Will to Win. I bet she could teach Puig a thing or two.

    • bigharold - Apr 18, 2014 at 5:01 PM

Clearly though it doesn’t run hard to first on routine grounders. Could be a problem. Is it possible for a chicken to dog it?

      • historiophiliac - Apr 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

Obviously a DH. Frankly, I don’t think she admired it long enough. Too quick back to the feed.

      She’s clearly a juicer.

I’ve always said, if a chick can hit a curve ball or throw one for a strike, baseball should let her play.

    Slow day, Craig?

    • bigharold - Apr 18, 2014 at 5:02 PM

Must be slow for all of us since we read and responded too.

  7. skids003 - Apr 18, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Craig better hope BJ don’t read this, and then come across him.

That held my interest longer than some Ranger games I attended the 80’s.

  9. nbjays - Apr 18, 2014 at 8:08 PM

OK, I’m disappointed now. Not by Craig’s post… I mean, who DOESN’T love a ball playing chicken. No, I’m disappointed because as soon as I saw the article, I expected the usual venom and vitriol from the usual suspects, y’know… like nymets4ever 4ever complaining that Craig is the worst “sports journalist” ever…or babyfartmcgee whining that he STILL can’t find Craig’s popcorn.

Man, you just can’t count on anybody these days. Except maybe Craig. You can count on him to post the strangest baseball-related things.

    • historiophiliac - Apr 18, 2014 at 9:19 PM

Who can hate on a post about Chick Ruth?

      • nbjays - Apr 18, 2014 at 11:17 PM

Historio, Craig could write a total feel good piece about ballplayers saving orphans from a fire and building them a new place to live, and those two could hate on it.
