Ike Davis solid in debut with Pirates

Ike Davis Ike Davis

Ike Davis had a good showing in his debut with his new team in Pittsburgh. The Pirates acquired Davis on Friday from the Mets in exchange for pitcher Zack Thornton and a player to be named later.

Davis got the start against right-hander Matt Garza, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring two runs in the process. He hit sixth behind Jose Tabata and watched his team lose 8-7 to the Brewers.

Meanwhile, in New York, Lucas Duda went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk as the Mets lost to the Braves 7-5. Clearly, the Pirates won the trade.

To bad the pitching wasn’t solid tonight, AGAIN!

    • renaado - Apr 20, 2014 at 12:18 AM

Yeah, saw a portion of the game there though.. There hitting is good, but they really need to improve the pitching there fast if they ever want to content with other teams in their division.

Wishin you luck with the Pirates there Ike.

I think searage will get them back on track soon. Hate to waste the hitting though.

The crazy thing is the Pirates pitching was excellent last year.

The pitching still has plenty time to turn around. Still, that’s easy for me to say with the Pirates not being my team. However, I do like the Pirates and respect their loyal fan base.

I love Ike Davis I hope he returns to a 30 homer guy with the pirates.

  6. corky2141 - Apr 20, 2014 at 4:12 AM

Clearly after one game we can say who won the trade

    • einjzmolf - Apr 20, 2014 at 4:30 AM

      That’s the joke

    • mmeyer3387 - Apr 20, 2014 at 3:03 PM

I’ve always liked Davis,he’s a class act. But its way to early to tell how things will shake out. Still, I do hope that Ike does well with his new team.

Since they basically got him for free (career AAA pitcher and one of their 2013 draft picks), I’d say they won that trade.

  7. proudlycanadian - Apr 20, 2014 at 6:40 AM

    I continue to like Ike.

  8. haterzinc - Apr 20, 2014 at 7:45 AM

They did win in the trade. Filled a gapping need. And paid very little for him. Low risk high reward.

    That’s a good solid trade

    • dondada10 - Apr 20, 2014 at 8:46 AM

We don’t know who the PTBNL is yet.

      • Francisco (FC) - Apr 20, 2014 at 9:43 AM

That dudes always being traded around the league, poor guy, nobody wants him.

      • paperlions - Apr 20, 2014 at 10:05 AM

        That or everyone wants him.

      • dondada10 - Apr 20, 2014 at 10:23 AM

Last time the Mets traded with the Bucos the PTBNL was Dilson Herrera. It’s very early, but he looks like a nice pick-up.

  9. mzim2756 - Apr 20, 2014 at 7:58 AM

I know it’s a joke but Duda was not in the trade, who “wins” the trade is based on Ike vs. the 2 players the mets receive

  10. dillongeeescapeplan - Apr 20, 2014 at 8:53 AM

at the very least, Davis is a good platoon partner for Sanchez.

  11. kraa0901 - Apr 20, 2014 at 11:28 AM

He was being sarcastic. Obviously we cannot tell who won the trade at this point.

  12. President Charles Logan - Apr 20, 2014 at 8:10 PM

he still sucks , he’ll be back in the minors in no time

    • The Argent Wolf - Apr 21, 2014 at 3:29 PM

      Well reasoned observation there, skippy!
