Kyle Farnsworth, 38, takes over as Mets’ closer

Apr 20, 2014, 11:30 AM EST

Jose Valverde allowed three runs in an inning of work Saturday night against the Braves — the latest in a string of rough outings. So manager Terry Collins decided Sunday morning to make a change:

Farnsworth has been pretty sharp this season in a setup role with the Mets, but the 38-year-old right-hander posted an ugly 4.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 28/10 K/BB ratio in 38 1/3 innings last summer between the Pirates and Rays. This is doubtful to end well. Though it’s not like Collins has a bunch of better options.

    That team is incredibly bad.

Choosing between Jose Valverde and Kyle Farnsworth as your closer is like choosing between Janet Reno and Rosie O’Donnell as your prom date.

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her dad is Janet Reno.” – John McCain. Now she’s procreating…

The 90s called, they want their prom date joke back.

As was stated the other day, Valverde is a train wreck waiting to happen, well it happened.

I would rather try Daisuke Matsuzaka at closer at this point.

I remember when Farnsworth was on the Cubs & TV cameras caught him napping in the bullpen during a game. Good luck with that NY.
