VIDEO: New Pirates first baseman Ike Davis connects for a broken-bat grand slam

Apr 21, 2014, 10:02 PM EDT

After going 3-for-9 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored in his first two games after coming over from the Mets, Ike Davis did this against Reds right-hander Mike Leake this evening at PNC Park in Pittsburgh:

Yes, it’s a broken-bat grand slam. It’s actually his second grand slam of the young season, as he launched a game-winner against the Reds back on April 5. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Davis is the first player ever to hit grand slams for different teams in April. He now has three grand slams in his career.

I’m just really glad he didn’t pimp that dinger…would have been a little awkward. Maybe not quite as awkward as if it had hit the top of the fence instead of going over the fence, but still awkward nonetheless.

Maybe there’s a clause for the PTBNL to turn into Austin Meadows if this keeps up…? Please?

I’m glad to hear that Davis is making an in-pack. He’s a good guy that never stops trying to help his team win.I hope that this turns into a good marriage between Davis and the Pirates.

Did I miss the broken bat?

Good thing Gerrit Cole wasn’t pitching for the Cincinnati Reds, Ike Davis’s bat flip and excessive admiration of the launch would have surely instigated a full blown brawl.

      *dropped the bat
      * turned and ran out of the batters box

There, I fixed it for ya
