[Update: 10:35 PM EST] Shi Davidi reports that the Blue Jays have transferred Brandon Morrow to the 60-day disabled list with a torn tendon sheath in his right hand.

The Blue Jays placed starter Brandon Morrow on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right index finger on Saturday, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports. According to Davidi, Morrow felt the index finger “pop” at the base of his right hand.

The Jays have recalled Chad Jenkins from Triple-A Buffalo to take Morrow’s spot on the roster, and J.A. Happ will start on Monday in Morrow’s place. The rest of the rotation will stay in the same order.

This marks the fourth consecutive season in which Morrow has landed on the DL, but fortunately for him and the Jays, this doesn’t seem comparatively as serious. Morrow had been struggling through six starts, posting a 5.93 ERA with a 26/17 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings.

After he walked 8 in 2+ innings of work, it isn’t the least bit surprising he’s hurt.

I see 2 upsides to this happening… 1) we may get to see some of the young guns from AAA sooner… and 2) dirtyharry isn’t here to spout off about it.

I doubt that Happ will be in the rotation for long. Both Stroman and Nolin have been very impressive in Buffalo.

By the way, Santos has lost the closing gig. It appears that Loup will get the majority of the opportunities to close games until Janssen returns. Janssen is going on a rehab stint early next week.

After tonight’s implosion, Loup isn’t showing he deserves it. This is getting ridiculous.

Anybody really surprised? Maybe that it is so early this time. Stroman and Nolan should be starting, not that stiff Happ? What’s he done to deserve it anyway! And why is Gibson so high on him? Are they related?
