This has been a good few days for the Reds, winning the series against the division-leading Brewers. But some bad news came out late last night:

Chris Heisey will see most of Bruce’s playing time in right field for the next month or so.

Heisey will finally get some extended playing time to show what he can do. He can either end up being a great trade chip for the Reds or someone to knock Ludwick out of the lineup. I’d rather see Heisey than Ludwick out there. Although we remember what Byran Price said “We would love to see Heisey get more playing time. But we know who our starters are.” In other words, Ludwick makes a lot more so I’m required to start him.

Or……Heisey finally gets some extended playing time to show his dilusional supporters that he isn’t an everyday player……he’s an anomaly…..great pinch hitter, doesn’t hit when he plays full games.

The numbers, so far this season he’s batting .270 as a pinch hitter, .250 as a starter.

Last year he got extended time starting day 1 when Ludwick hurt himself in the first inning on opening day……Heisey batted .170 as the everyday left fielder that month.

How do you judge the guy as a starter at all? A player can’t get into a rythm with starting a game and then maybe pinch hitting next game and not playing for 2 days and then maybe a pinch hit again. Then when he did get an extended shot, as soon as he slowed down Dusty sat him and platooned him. He gave him no chance to rebound and react to a slump. But then he plays Drew friggin Stubbs day in and day out so we can watch his strikeout spectacle at the plate. That was fun.

Heisey has had extended play time in the past. He’s never done well. I hope you’re right though.

he got exactly 12 days at the start of last season as a starter, got off to a slow start was immediately platooned by dusty. and the dusty platoon means 1-2 starts a week no matter what you do in those starts. he needs to be the the starter until Bruce comes back and if he fails then to bad he had the chance, but platooning him will do him and the team no good. this is the same team that had no problem putting stubbs in the leadoff spot everyday to strike out and bat .200 and who had no problem sending cozart out in the 2 hole to do the same thing last year everyday. no way they ever bench ludwick since he is a former cardinal and making big bucks, and since walt loves ex-cards that means shumaucker will get the right field job instead of Heisey. he just does not seem to understand that these guys are ex-cards for a reason and not the same guys they were 10 years ago when he was in charge of the cardinals.

12 days??…..he started 18 games, was off for 6 in that stretch before he got hurt……he batted .173
