You say “gamble”; I say “heterochromial awesomeness.” Potaytoe/potahtoe

You gave Scherzer’s strikeouts a 50% discount on the graphic.

The gamble that Arizona made to trade him sure didn’t pay off for Los Dbacks. :/

I didn’t realize the 2014 season had concluded and the free agency period this off-season was set to begin.

    It’s paying off… so far.

But there are a whole lot of innings where stuff can go wrong. How about we wait until they’re done before sizing this one up?

Good point… Going into the season we knew that if Scherzer pitched like Scherzer and didn’t get hurt, he would make more as a free agent and his gamble would pay off… It is too soon. Where I also disagree with Calcaterra is, if Scherzer does have another Cy Young type season, he may get closer to Kershaw money than Craig thinks. Kershaw got his money as a extension. As a free agent, with Sabathia and Kuroda pitching like they are for the yankees, they will likely be big bidders. Throw in Detroit and who knows who else and you have the recipe for mega deal.
