Ominous news here for the first-place Orioles.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that catcher Matt Wieters is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday for an examination of his right elbow, which has been giving him problems since last week. The worst-case scenario, as Passan notes, would be a torn UCL and season-ending Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

The best-case scenario would be that it’s merely elbow inflammation and able to heal over time.

Wieters is in the Orioles’ starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Rays, but as the designated hitter.

The two-time Gold Glove Award winner is batting .337 with a .942 OPS in 22 games this season.

All I know is that whoever in his family tree made the decision to change the N to a T is a real dick.

Is that a painting of Wieters or a photo? Cuz it’s a pretty cool image either way.

Karma. This is straight up karma from the whole debacle with our team doctor failing multiple supposed healthy players during free agency. That jerk.

On a realistic note, poor MW. Finally starts hitting like a boss and now this…

Holding out hope this is nothing major. First Machado, then Davis, now Matt. Who’s next Jones? It would be nice to have the full team together at some point this season.

    • sophiethegreatdane - May 6, 2014 at 10:29 PM

Yeah, who would strike out three times a game on outside sliders in the dirt if Jonesy got hurt? You can replace that kind of production.

        Due. *Can’t*

        Fail.

Despite the gloom, Baltimore entered tonight’s game with a slight lead over the Yankees and currently lead the Rays late in the game.

You don’t visit that doctor wihout him telling you that you need Tommy John Surgery.

Baltimore will still win the AL East. No team is any good.
