HBT Daily: Stolen bases and baseball’s cyclical nature

Ah there it is, the Dee Flash Gordon commentary that was so dearly needed. Yes he is a fast. Yes he can steal bags. And yes he might swipe a hundred. But he can hit his way on, too. This kid is every managers love affair. He gained over 10lbs in the off season, worked on his plate discipline, and sized up the pick off tendencies of the pitchers he’d be facing. The result is the slender, lightening fast monster known as Dee Gordon. All everyone talks about is Puig, Puig, Puig. Gordon has been largely ignored and it has been his play that has seen the Dodgers through many a game so far. When the Nationals kept Gordon off the basepaths yesterday they won. When others let Gordon on, they lost. Control Flash Gordon and you can manage to have a chance against The Dodgers. Spend all your time worrying about Puig and you’ll see nothing but a streak of Dodger Blue tearing up the pea patch.

I thought that said “cynical nature” when I read it.
