Brian McCann and Carlos Gomez are now friends

May 9, 2014, 6:55 PM EDT

Last September, Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez was part of a big kerfluffle with the Braves after hitting a first-inning solo home run off of Paul Maholm. Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson yelled at Gomez as he rounded the bases, and McCann blocked Gomez’s path to home plate while yelling all kinds of obscenities. Shortly thereafter, the benches cleared and Gomez was public enemy number one thereafter.

McCann signed a five-year, $85 million deal with the Yankees during the off-season but just because he switched leagues doesn’t mean he’d have the luxury of avoiding Gomez. With the Yankees in Milwaukee for a three-game set, McCann and Gomez have finally settled their differences, according to’s Adam McCalvy:

And from WFAN’s Sweeny Murti:

It remains to be seen how Gerrit Cole will handle his next interaction with Gomez.

I’m glad their moms made them go shake hands. I heard they are going to sleep over at Derek’s house and play video games.

Threatening to withhold the orange wedges really brings kids to their senses!

McCann’s been known to block the controller if your game play offends his sensibilities.

Carlos Gomez is still a jerk!

Gomez admitted that chirping at Maholm last year was stupid. Other than that what has he done that’s so bad. McCann is the one who escalated that situation. This years thing would have been nothing if not for TravisSnider trying to be the big man. So 2 incidents, one he admits fault for and the other was nothing until some bench jockey decided to get tough. Why is he a bad guy?

Wow, it’s just like Sato and Miyagi in Karate Kid II.

I’m happy that they were able to patch up their differences BEFORE Gomez’s nephew and some kid from New Jersy who just kind of hangs around McCann had to fight it out at an abandoned castle that had a small inside moat for some reason.

No. Wait. I’m not happy about that. I’m not happy about that at all. That would have been much better than just reading a Tweet about it.
