Play of the Day: Juan Lagares robs Jayson Werth of a home run

The Mets have had trouble getting Juan Lagares into the lineup on an everyday basis. Lagares showed them why they ought to find room on Saturday afternoon against the Nationals.

With the Mets up 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, starter Bartolo Colon threw a 3-2 two-seam fastball to Jayson Werth. Werth skied it to straightaway centerfield and it had home run distance. Lagares had other ideas, leaping up and snagging the ball before it could land for a solo home run.

Watch the great grab:

Lagares also hit a two-run homer. I hope manager Terry Collins was watching.

Turnabout is fair play. Werth robbed Murphy last night, Lagares robbed Werth today.

I love how Lagares slumps for a few games, bringing his average to a little below .300, and he’s benched. Eric Young can literally go hitless for 2 weeks and still find a way into the lineup. It’s not like he’s paid big money. I just don’t get it

Mets will probably bench him tomorrow

Ozzie? Sounds great, but he’d be gone in a week because he would let everyone know what’s really going on with that organization.
