Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Twins have optioned 1B/OF Chris Colabello and outfielder Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester.

The demotion was expected, particularly for Colabello as he has been slumping since late April. Entering this afternoon’s game against the Giants, Colabello was slashing .110/.167/.164 with a home run, four RBI, and a 28/5 K/BB ratio in 78 plate appearances dating back to April 24.

Colabello started off the season on fire, slashing .346/.386/.577 with four home runs and 26 RBI through April 23.

To take up the spots vacated by Colabello and Herrmann, the Twins have activated outfielder Josh Willingham from the 15-day disabled list and called up outfielder Oswaldo Arcia from Triple-A.

Just red this guy’s story yesterday, and it was truly an emotional one. Hopin he find his stroke back there at minors soon and lookin forward for him gettin back at the Majors.

Who do you send down, Colabello who can sometimes swing a hot bat but is a terrible fielder, or the exact opposite, Aaron Hicks? Hope he gets his groove going again.

You can’t send down Hicks when there’s no center fielder to take his place.

We have guys who can be outfielders, Colabello having been out there himself. But he just could field the ball well. Moving him to first didn’t improve things, either. And I want this guy to succeed.

It really appears that the twins have an extremely hard time developing young talent

Colabello is 30 and they signed him out of the independent leagues. Not really “developing young talent”. Just be careful your Brewers team doesn’t cool off the same as Colabello did after their hot start.

Yesterday the Twins played 3 IF’s in the OF; it has to get better now with Josh & Oswaldo back…

The problem is that both of them are terrible outfielders.
