The Red Sox held a reunion for their 2004 World Series championship team before Wednesday’s game against the Braves. Manny Ramirez, who has been hired as a player-coach for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, was in attendance. So was Johnny Damon.

You might remember this blooper¬†from that 2004 championship season, which will forever be included on “Manny Being Manny” highlight reels …

Damon got a bit of revenge for that surprise cutoff when Manny went to throw his ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday night at Fenway Park, with a cameo from Jason Varitek at catcher …

Ramirez spoke about the end of his Red Sox tenure with Sean McAdam of CSNNewEngland.com.

Meh, I loved to hate Johnny in pinstripes, but he’s one of those ballplayers you can’t help but love in the long run.

It was fun to complain about Damon selling out back in the day, especially given how he set himself up for that with all of his professions of loyalty to the Sox. But dude, get over it. He was a fun player contributed to some great Red Sox moments.

Also, even though Damon hit well for the Yankees, he was expensive and was no longer a regular center fielder (his contract doesn’t seem like much now, but at the time he was the fifth highest-paid outfielder ever by average annual value). I am quite happy for the Yankees to continue overpaying for everyone else’s aging outfielders.

I actually didn’t even want the Sox to resign him (certainly not at Boras’ asking price).

But the way he left was douchier than hell.

Pretty hard to complain about a player leaving the Red Sox as a free agent who signed with the Red Sox as a free agent.

At least the whole thing didn’t look awkward.
