May 29, 2014, 3:01 PM EDT

Versions of this have been floating around all week for the NBA and NHL, so let’s try it with baseball:

It’s self-explanatory. You have $30 to spend on 10 players — one player per position. You can leave your team in the comments below or enter your selections at this link for official polling purposes.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. You mean to tell me, based on the price, that Mike Trout is the best centerfielder of all time? #wasteoftime

They rank those 5 pictures better the Koufax and Gibson? Please. No Berra. Brooks Robinson ahead of Chipper Jones? Trout ahead of Mays? Let’s remove the PED clowns (Bonds, Clemens, Manny A-Rod). Who made this list?

    My lineup:

    Henderson $3
    Hornsby $5
    Mays $4
    Ruth $5
    Gehrig $3
    Wagner $4
    Boggs $2
    Carter $1

    Pitchers:

    Maddux $1
    Eckersley $2

  4. humbug668 - May 30, 2014 at 2:41 PM

    1. Chase Utley 2b, $2
    2. Willie Mays CF, $4
    3. Barry Bonds LF, $5
    4. Babe Ruth RF, $5
    5. Albert Pujols 1b, $4
    6. Mike Schmidt 3b, $4
    7. Mike Piazza C, $2
    8. Cal Ripken SS, $2

    Pitchers:
    Greg Maddox SP, $1
    Billy Wagner CL, $1

    CF – Cobb $3
    2B – Hornsby $5
    LF – Bonds $5
    RF – Ruth $5
    1B – Gehrig $3
    3B – Schmidt $4
    SS – Ripkin $2
    C – Carter $1

    SP – Maddux $1
RP – Wagner $1…. then waive him so that he can be a clubhouse cancer on another team. In the 9th inning bring in the Babe to close and move Maddux and his gold gloves to the OF.
Or I suppose I could downgrade Schmidt to B Robinson and spend the extra $1 to get a good closer in Eckersley. But waiving Wagner and watching Ruth pitch would be more fun.

    LF – Manny $2
    CF – Mantle $1
    RF – Babe $5
    3rd – ARod $5

    1st – Cabrera $5
    C – Piazza $2
    SP – Pedro $3
    CL – Wagner $1

This article ties perfectly into debate at the dinner table…

    1) Who is better at the game of baseball? Lou Gehrig or Aroldis Chapman?
    2) You have Ty Cobb in your lineup. How much would you pay to upgrade him to Yadier Molina? (the answer is 1/30 of your team payroll)

  8. sportsfan18 - May 30, 2014 at 4:08 PM

Crazy amounts listed for some of the players… Don’t even need to spend all $30 based on their amounts.

    Pitcher Greg Maddux $1
    Catcher Ivan Rodriguez $3
    1st base Lou Gehrig $3
    2nd base Chase Utley $2
    3rd base Chipper Jones $1
    SS Cal Ripken $2
    LF Rickey Henderson $3
    CF Mickey Mantle $1
    RF Roberto Clemente $3
    Closer Dennis Eckersley $3

    $22

Don’t need to spend more than is necessary. Just because you have the money doesn’t mean it has to be spent…

  9. lanflfan - May 30, 2014 at 4:35 PM

    SP: Maddux ($1)
    CL: Eckersley ($2)

    C: Piazza ($2)

    1B: Cabrera ($5)
    2B: Robinson ($3)
    3B: Boggs ($2)
    SS: Wagner ($4)

    RF: Clemente ($3)
    CF: Cobb ($3)
    LF: Williams ($4)

Costing only $29, that leaves me Pete Rose for the bench to spend all $30.

Like others have said, those prices are way off. Way too much emphasis on todays stars. However with those prices, this is the team I would field

    LF – Rickey Henderson
    2B – Jackie Robinson
    RF – Babe Ruth
    1B – Albert Pujols
    CF – Ken Griffey Jr.
    C – Mike Piazza
    3B – Chipper Jones
    SS – Honus Wagner
    P – Greg Maddux
    CL – Mariano Rivera

  11. doclolly - May 30, 2014 at 7:15 PM

    SP- Pedro Martinez [3]
    CL Mariano Rivera [5]

    1.Chase Utley 2B [2]
    2. Ken Griffey CF [2]
    3. Arod 3B [5]
    4. Manny Ramirez LF [2]
    5.Hank Aaron RF [4]
    6. Lou Gehrig 1B [3]
    7. Mike Piazza [2]
    8. Cal Ripkin [2]

    Total $30

  12. ajgp920 - May 31, 2014 at 1:48 AM

    P Greg Maddux
    C Pudge Rodriguez
    1B Lou Gehrig
    2B Rogers Hornsby
    3B Mike Schmidt
    SS Honus Wagner
    LF Rickey Henderson
    CF Ken Griffey Jr.
    RF Stan Musial
    Cl- Dennis Eckersley

How in the hell is Mike Trout over Griffey, Mantle,Cobb, and Mays? Those are four of the top ten greatest players ever.
