Ben Zobrist will come off the disabled list and rejoin the Rays on Friday for the start of a three-game series against the Red Sox, returning after missing the past two weeks with a dislocated left thumb.

Zobrist suffered the injury on May 15 while sliding head-first into second base on a steal attempt and always hoped to miss the minimum of 15 days.

Sean Rodriguez and Logan Forsythe split time at second base in Zobrist’s absence and the Rays went 5-8 without him in the lineup. Zobrist hit .260 with three homers and a .716 OPS in 40 games before the injury, drawing more walks (23) than strikeouts (21).

Is Ben Zobrist the most underrated player in baseball? Since 2009, he is third in WAR in the American League, behind only Miguel Cabrera and Robinson Cano. Yet he has made less money for his career than either of those guys get in one season. He has never finished higher than 8th in MVP voting, and he has only two all-star appearances.

    Thank goodness.

Al Solis is also being called up while Hannigan is out, but he only weighs 175 lbs. I wish him well, but wonder what happens when he tries to block someone like Ross at the plate.

Molina took a foul ball in the mask yesterday. He will be watched carefully because he might have suffered a concussion
