Toronto Blue Jays' Bautista looks into the stands between innings during a MLB American League baseball game against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg Reuters

The scene: bottom of the sixth inning, Blue Jays up 2-1 over the Cardinals. The Jays loaded the bases on back-to-back singles by Anthony Gose and Jose Reyes, and Melky Cabrera reaching on a fielding error by Matt Carpenter. With a 1-2 count against Seth Maness, Jose Bautista ripped a line drive to second baseman Daniel Descalso. Descalso flipped to shortstop Jhonny Peralta at the second base bag for the second out, and Peralta fired the ball to first baseman Allen Craig to complete the triple play.

Nice play by St. Louis. Not much the Jays could do about it. During the game, Bautista also threw out a runner at home and hit a run. He was also involved in a fan interference call In the 9th inning a Toronto fan reached into fair ground and interfered with Bautista who was about to make a catch. The initial call of safe was overturned upon review. The Jays won by 3 to 1.

That kid that interfered sure had a strong resemblance to the infamous Steve Bartman

Edit function: “Hit a home run”. My keyboard is acting up tonight.

Mighty Mouse got the win for the Jays and Might Casey got another save.

Stroman has some filthy stuff. I saw some of those pitches he was getting strikeouts with. Wow!

If he had more velocity I bet Janssen would already be in the conversation as the best closer in the game. His appearances this season have just been absolute lockdown – as close to a sure thing as there is in the show. And the funny thing is he’s been basically this good since 2011. Last three years he’s given 45+ saves, 2.60 or less ERA, under 1.0 WHIP, Mendoza line or better opponent’s batting average. Before today, his last two appearances were a one pitch save, and a three pitch strikeout save against Detroit that was just sick.

But he doesn’t throw fireballs or play in a hot market so people are only vaguely aware he even exists. Too bad – bottom of the 9th in close games at Rogers Center are a lot of fun to watch.

First thing that struck me about him was the baby face…then I saw that filthy curve..

It don’t matter what the cardinals did ! The Dominican power Blue Jays won the game!

      You are obviously not sane.
Much as I like Toronto, there is no good reason for spending
a weekend there when you could be in Montreal.
That said, have a good time in the Big Smoke.

Was at the game sitting close to the kid who interfered with Bautista in the 9th. I doubt he will be making that mistake again. Booing then bartman then leave in shame chants started immediately. Somebody threw beer a t him and was thrown out of the game. Oscar Tavares was awful and heckled (rightfully) all game. See you tomorrow Oscar.

Nothing the Jays could do about that triple play. Bautista scorched it – 9 times out of 10 that’s either a 2 RBI single or a 1 RBI double play. Just a perfect bead to Descalso.

Fortunately, there was nothing that the triple play could do about the Juggernaut Jays, either.

There is some youth on this team to go along with the veterans. Hutchinson, Stroman and Gose are 23. Lawrie is 24. It is a nice combination.

Waiting for Craig to chime in that he would rather see 3 strikeouts than a Triple Play…..

The pirates had some gimmick a few years ago. If the pirates turned a triple play in the 6th? inning on Friday someone wins a million. They knew they never would have to cut that check.
