Season-ending surgery looking more likely for Matt Wieters

Jun 9, 2014, 3:28 PM EDT

Matt Wieters has been out since early may with a bum elbow. Now here’s some bad news. Well, at least 66.7% bad news:

Wieters hasn’t played since May 10, hasn’t been behind the plate since May 4. A decision on the elbow surgery — which would be season-ending — is expected to be made by July 1.

I wonder if he will continue to receive a lot of All Star game votes after this news? Last seen, he was in the lead even though he was injured.

not surprised about the surgery. Wieters was hoping to delay cuz this is a contract year.

I love when teams and players delay the inevitable, then have the player miss time the next year because his rehab took “longer than expected”.

If it’s a 50/50 proposition about surgery, do it, be done with it, and have more time available for the inevitable setbacks in your recovery.

Dont like the way the birds have handled their injured players the last couple years. They delayed manny and his knee, now matt with this elbow. Matt was finally showing some bat skills and now this. Blahhhhh we cant get a break in baltimore.
